Russia Charges Wagner Chief with ‘Armed Uprising,’ Fortifies Moscow amid Rumors of Coup
BREITBART ^ | 23 Jun 2023 | Frances Martel

The government of Russia confirmed late Friday that it had opened an investigation into and filed charges against the leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, for calling “armed rebellion” against Moscow.

Prior to the announcement by the Federal Security Service, Prigozhin published several video messages on Friday claiming that Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu ordered an attack on Wagner positions in Ukraine and killed “a large number of our fighters.” He later reportedly claimed he entered Rostov-on-Don, Russia, allegedly with little resistance. The city is home to important military installments and the Wagner chief reportedly claimed Shoigu was present there.

Prigozhin, whose troops are at the forefront of the ongoing “special operation” by Russian leader Vladimir Putin to oust Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, had become increasingly vocal against the Ukrainian invasion and Shoigu, in particular, in the past few months, though he had limited criticism of Putin directly and claimed to maintain close relations to the strongman.

Multiple reports translating Prigozhin’s online messages claim that he vowed to bring his troops, which he claimed to number up to 25,000 men, into Moscow, but insisted, “this is not a military coup.”

Reports out of Moscow indicate that the Russian government has begun to fortify the capital. In Rostov, regional Gov. Vasily Golubev published a message on Telegram telling civilians to “keep calm and not leave home without need,” according to the Russian state outlet RT.

The ongoing crisis began on Friday with the publication of a video in which Prigozhin accused Shoigu, the defense minister, of ordering an attack on his positions in Ukraine that allegedly killed 2,000 Wagner militants.

“Those who destroyed our lads, who destroyed the lives of many tens of thousands of Russian soldiers, will be punished. I ask that no one offer resistance,” Prigozhin said.

Wagner forces have gone as far as Lipetsk - more than half way to Moscow already. They have met no resistance from ground forces. Have shot down at least one and possibly three helicopters sent against them by the Russian military.

A falling out among brigands and pirates, which does not bode well for the future of the current regime in the Kremlin.

Don’t get me wrong, Prigozhin is as much a rascal as Putin, so essentially it would be a palace revolution, same authoritarian governance, just different players.

A repeat in history, when the Mensheviks, radical socialists instrumental in overthrowing the Tsar, were in turn overthrown by the Bolsheviks, a much more radical socialist regime.

The Putinites might have to bring out the jet fighters soon since the helicopters didn’t work.

1917 redux? Sounds like the Russian troops abandoning the front at WWI except the Duma hasn’t declared for Wagner.

History never repeats but does seem to mimic the past.

I had not seen that anywhere posted.
Does it relate to the Russian helicopters just shot down by Wagner that is being posted?

Pay mercenaries to do your fighting for you and then - surprise! - the mercenaries turn on you. Who could ever have seen this coming?

“A repeat in history, when the Mensheviks, radical socialists instrumental in overthrowing the Tsar, were in turn overthrown by the Bolsheviks, a much more radical socialist regime.”

Word.

Our current crop of Mensheviks in the government and news offices might want to consider what happened and usually happens to the original fomenters of coups.

Socialist draw play, causes dreamers of, and activists for, freedom . . . to take some action and thereby reveal themselves to socialist police state security.

That is not the situation. The vast majority of Russian combat forces are in Ukraine. Inside the country Wagner is mostly facing lightly armed guardsmen and police. They have wisely decided not to put up a fight in most places.

Prighozin has already taken the command headquarters of the Russian military in the south, and apparently their military base. The video here reportedly shows a Wagner column heading for a Russian air force base.

Someone bombed an oil depot in Voronezh.

It’s ironic because there is a standing Russian joke “to bomb Voronezh” which means to hurt yourself in response to an action by an enemy: “If America bombs Syria, Putin will retaliate and bomb Voronezh!”

Now Russians really are bombing Voronezh.

He's marching on your capital gunning for your head, and you've "opened an investigation"?

General Patton, if he had not been called back the first time he crossed the Rhine, would have rolled into Berlin in days and would not have stopped until he was at the gates of the Kremlin.

But you have to remember that Joe Stalin and FDR were the best of buddies back then, and this rogue behavior had to be nipped in the bud.

Rumors have been repeatedly denied, that General Patton was NOT attacked and died as a result of a traffic “accident” in Germany, before he had the opportunity to return to US soil.

But imagine the mischief he would have caused to the entire political structure of the US if he HAD lived to return to speak directly to the American public.
