Vladimir Putin reportedly flees Moscow as Wagner forces advance in Russia

Vladimir Putin’s presidential plane left Moscow early Saturday, sparking rumors that he had fled the Russian capital as the Wagner Group’s mercenary forces advanced on the city.

The president’s aircraft was spotted on flight radar flying northwest from Moscow to the St Petersburg area — but then disappeared from the system near the city of Tver, the BBC reported, where Putin owns a large rural retreat.

Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied that his boss had turned tail amid the crisis, telling news agency TASS that he was “working in the Kremlin.”

Wagner has never been a real mercenary company. They have always been an unofficial state structure. Sort of like IRGC in Iran. Being “unofficial” allowed them to ignore some laws.

Putin needed them for his divide-and-rule style to be a counterbalance and rival to the military.

Lol if we can overthrow the Russian government for only $1.3 billion that’s money extremely well spent. I hope the new President doesn’t take your dacha away, tovarishch!

Who is in control of the Nuke?
Will Putin flee to Belarus?
Putin recently moved short-range nukes into Belarus!
Will Russia descend into Civil War?
Will China seize parts of Russia during a civil war?
Will Biden simply sh*t his pants and will his handlers praise this as a new start for Russia?

This is what happens when you do not pay your mercenaries (many regular Army Russian soldiers have also not been paid, which might partly explain the lack of serious resistance).

“They also offered him $1.3 billion dollars to turn on President Putin and lead a coup.”

************

We’ll his financial support from the Kremlin is obviously gone now so he’s got to be working for someone else. Running a large army costs a lot of money.

What comes after Putin is likely to be much worse and more bloodthirsty.

Well, it's likely to be just as bad, most likely. Prighozin sounds just as crazy as Putin, though I'd assume he won't be as stupid and allow private mercenary groups to operate.

"They are mercenaries so someone paid them to do this. Who?"

Didn't Putin hire the Wagner group mercenaries to fight Ukes? I read they were not getting paid and taking too many casualties and now have turned on their employer - Russia. But then, who knows with all the propaganda?

I fail to see how creating a power vaccuum is a good thing with all those nukes. This is irresponsible. We can’t even remove a 3rd world dictator without all hell breaking loose how could destabilizing the largest nuclear power in the world work out even better?

Difficult to believe Putin would send his private jet somewhere out of country while this is going on. Just adds to the uncertainty, and uncertainty is in Wagner’s favor.

A big problem for Putin, Shoigu and Gerasimov is that elite units like the 4th Guards Tank Division and the 2nd Guards Motorized Rifle Division which were given the honor of the Moscow garrison to defend the capital were absolutely mauled in Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

They spent months recovering in Belarus and are still in the Ukraine theatre supposedly in the Luhansk area in very poor shape.

Anyway, it is not clear these units would not side with Prigozhin given the massive losses they sustained under the incompetence of Shoigu and Gerasimov.

So Putin has to rely on air power and the Rosgvardia to defend the capital. And Wagner has their own air defense systems.

This is of those times where you don’t know who to root for to prevail. Both are ruthless and dangerous to the world.
