‘EVERYTHING IS BURNING’: United States-provided cluster munitions made their debut on the battlefields of Ukraine this week, with Ukrainian commanders reporting they are making a difference as efforts continue to break through Russian defenses.
“We have gotten some initial feedback from the Ukrainians, and they're using them quite effectively,’ NSC spokesman John Kirby said in a White House briefing. “They're using them appropriately … and they are actually having an impact on Russia's defensive formations and Russia's defensive maneuvering.”
Intercepted messages posted on Twitter by a pro-Ukrainian media platform indicate the controversial weapons are having a psychological impact on entrenched front-line Russian troops. “At the moment, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are demolishing our positions in the Bakhmut direction with cluster munitions,” one message says. “The counter-battery fight does not work. Everything is burning all around. The men are holding on, waiting for aviation. The General Staff has not yet handed over cluster bombs and rockets with cluster munitions to our guys for answers. It remains only to believe in our guys and our pilots."
Kirby described the current level of fighting as “pretty vicious,” and said Ukraine admits its counteroffensive is “not going as far or as fast on a daily basis as they would like.”

This has nothing to do with Ukraine and international power politics.
My son asked me a simple question, “Are they really in a war dad?” He then asked, “what is the last actual war footage you’ve seen? All I hear are reports, with no video.”
War and death are ugly. To keep people “standing with Ukraine’ they need to shield the supporting public from those images and the realities of war.
Omission is their strategy.
Now, with the addition of cluster bombs, we act as an aggressor; every one of those bombs that kills a Russian has a gift-tag on it: To Ukraine from America.
This is not cool. Be ready.
They already did that with their use of artillery-sown minefields. Those are not substantially different from cluster bombs in effects.
You want to see horrors, watch the Russian videos of Ukraine troops trapped and dying in those minefields. Cluster bombs against the Russians are an inevitable response from Ukraine.
The affected areas will remain lethal hazards for decades.
This will continue to escalate until one side or the other runs out of men. I expect that will be the Ukraine that gives up. A war of attrition does not work in their favor.

Psaki wasn’t saying that cluster bombs are a war crime, but that claims of Russia using them against civilians can potentially be a war crime.

I guarantee: If you were a Ukrainian mother whose child's kindergarten had been rocket-bombed by Putin's Russia, you'd feel a lot more "comfortable."
Unless we were promoting some type of peace deal, we should have stayed far away.
But we (the Collective West) did promote a peace deal: Russia withdraws all of its invasion troops and goes home, and the war stops.
But instead, Putin chooses to continue his invasion.
