Republicans Are Sleeping on the Gen Z Vote — it’s Going to Backfire
New York Post ^ | August 5, 2023 | Rikki Schlott

Conservative politicians are sleeping on the youth vote — and it’s a recipe for disaster at the polls. True, young people tend to tack left, but discounting the next generation as a progressive monolith is a political strategy that’s destined to backfire, especially considering that half of all eligible voters will be Gen Zers or millennials by 2028.

Although two-thirds of young voters went blue in 2020 — and many helped Democrats coast to victory in the midterms last year — it doesn’t always have to be that way. Millennials are moving solidly to the right as they age, with Biden’s 2020 margin shrinking to just half of Obama’s in 2008.

Meanwhile, the generation with the most precipitous drop in approval ratings for President Biden was actually Gen Z, plummeting a hefty 21 points between just his inauguration and early 2022.

There good and valid reason is their parents lack of parenting. They were asked about their " feelings"

allowed to refuse to eat grandmas cooking, fed a diet of chicken nuggets because they didn't like roast beef*

never allowed to be lead, always asked " what do you want to do" and i know damn well they never heard mom say" knock it off, you want something to cry about? I'll give you something to cry about"

this entire generation needs to be broken down and reborn and brought up right. not 100% but a vast majority.

13 y.o's with nose piercings? dressing like japanese anime characters short skirts and long stockings with high heels!!!!

gen z..Its like talking to a spoiled 10 y.o.

I am going to assume Ikeon, you are one of the older generation. I am also going to assume, because of posting here, you are most likely a college graduate, are or have been married, and own or have owned a house and a new car.

Look at the average debt load a graduate in STEM will carry, the cost of an apartment, and the cost of a used car.

Telling them to pay off the loan, which they often took before you can sign many contracts, and not have enough to have the life that their parents had is going to make people angry and hopeless. I have a few mentorees that did what they were “supposed” to. Got degrees in solid areas, with good job prospects. Tried to save money.

They can’t afford an apartment. Let alone a car. Family? No chance. 20 years of debt. House? Nope.

So you have a solid block of people who see a bunch of older retirees living a life they could never imagine, and demanding they pay more taxes for the retirees?

Hate. That is what is building is hate. Based from hopelessness, no future, and lack of any paths forward.

Everything you posted, I have heard about boomers. Many I have seen.

So rather than bitching, which is fun and enjoyable I admit, go talk to these younger people. See what they are facing.

I am a gen X. The middle child. Which is ok, but I have seen the doors close on these kids. My boss is 10 years younger than me, has four kids. A unicorn in his generation. But he has been hit three economic crashes, two layoffs, and every time he gets a little breathing room he losses his grub stake over some sort of thing like 2009 or COVID. And he is the lucky one.

Most are not.

these people are facing another day of sitting there staring at their phones, Instead of going out with friends, they talk to each other in texts.

I dont blame them for their parents never showing them how to be an adult, letting them take full responsibility for their actions.

if I was 20 something today Id be working 2 jobs, investing, buying a home, sacrificing. going to church and getting involved with the community.

you want what your parents have? its gonna take 20 years , 1st thing.. throw the phone away !

That phone is worth more than you think. It is a distraction, but no more than books and newspapers were back in the day

And it won’t take 20 years. It would take 40 years. Maybe.

What were the housing costs as percentage of income when you started? What is it now?

The naïveté of believing "who votes counts."
