NYC Council Dems’ bill would force landlords to promote incumbents or face hefty fines

Far-left members of the City Council want to make Big Apple landlords do their work for them — or face five-figure fines.

A new bill would require property owners to provide tenants with contact information for all elected officials representing their respective neighborhoods.

Under the bill, introduced last week by Brooklyn Councilwoman Jennifer Gutiérrez, landlords would be required to supply new and existing tenants with hard-copy notices listing the names, office addresses and phone contacts for all federal, state and city pols representing their neighborhoods.

Maybe the landlords could put in an addendum of the voting records and “accomplishments” of each, also.

And a copy of their opponents campaign literature with a recommendation to vote for the challenger.

Just one more proof that you don’t really own your “property.” The government does, but you get the taxes, the mortgage, the insurance and the upkeep.

Nothingburger BS. Being able to contact government representatives with complaints against your landlord is a fundamental right, which landlords might not want to facilitate. This is not “promoting” anyone or anything except the interests of the tenant.

Yes it is. There are enough regulations for landlords. Laws are already stated in rental contracts. There is no need for this.

A further thought. Exactly why would a politician want to be involved in this but for political reasons. There are so many channels for tenants to work through than politicans.

THIS IS ALL POLITICS.

Laws are stated. Phone numbers of contacts who might help enforce those laws are not. That isn’t forcing landlords to “campaign” for incumbents, but giving said incumbents more calls to attend to and deal with from those PITA little people, when they could be out hobnobbing with celebrities.

Me, too.

Stalin, Mao, Kim Jong Un, American Democrats....
All enforce their tyranny.

Thanks again, American people for allowing this to take hold so you can feel gushy and woke.

Exactly. They would not want to touch it with a ten foot poll, but they are technically public servants. As for the political points they’d score with this, not likely. Tenants are not an appreciative audience. If you fail to help them for whatever reason, they will curse you out no matter how hard you tried, even if they are not dysfunctional losers themselves. It’s a thankless task, just like being a landlord in a rent-controlled New York building.

” There are so many channels for tenants to work through than politicans”

Legal Aid, social workers, “community activists”. Yeah. Right. Have fun with them.

When are you going to learn another law does not solve problems.

Sometimes I can’t tell the difference between liberals and conservatives.

Think about your position.

The mere fact you think more govt, more laws, more regulation is the solution is revealing.

No wonder we are in trouble.

There isn’t any more government in this. Just more access to the existing government officials, who will have to use part of their bloated budgets to hire phone operators, put in a phone bank, and work the cases of these mere peasants with their petty problems, rather than using the same money to galivant around in limos to attend chic parties and see film premiers, and aggressively solicit campaign contributions from landlords.
