On Monday, Hawaiian governor Josh Green announced that his administration was considering acquiring properties in the seaside resort town of Lahaina that had been destroyed by the recent wildfires.
He vowed to prevent foreign buyers from swooping in to exploit the tragedy, suggesting the state was better suited to take control of the land
"I'm already thinking of ways for the state to acquire that land so that we can put it into workforce housing, to put it back into families, or make it open spaces in perpetuity as a memorial to the people who were lost," Green said while standing amongst the rubble.
"We want this to be something we remember after the pain passes as a magic place. Lahaina will rebuild. The tragedy right now is the loss of life. The buildings can be rebuilt over time, even the banyan tree may survive, but we don't want this to become a clear space where then people from overseas just come and decide they're gonna take it. The state will take it and preserve it first."
In a separate press conference, Green reiterated his committment to ensure the land was protected for residents,

So a book is already written and published on Amazon blaming the fire on climate change! It was publishedAugust 10 but in the title it mentions August 8-11 for dates of the fire. Very creepy!
These people are so evil, brazen, in your face, they are showing us they can plan t burn down a city, cause hundreds of deaths, blame it on climate change, and get away with it, and there is nothing anyone can do. Obviously this event was preplanned for a long time!
People are blasting the book so badly that Amazon has shut down comments unless you buy the book, which I refuse to do.
Imperfect world imperfect choices.
Most of Republican fecklessness we the voters cause by continuing to return the same clown to office. (Because of how dangerous Rats are the time to do that is in the primary!) Why do we do that? Laziness, disinterest and if interested then we ask can he/she give me my turn in the taxpayer trough?
Also the average voter is NOT as conservative as those on this site. Let me refine that the average conservative voter is not as conservative as those on this site. How do I know this? I volunteered and helped my local GOP organization, did door-to-door, did GOTV, manned booths at local fairs, etc. Try it you’ll see!
Oh, yeah. But, hey, it’s OK. They’re Derp State Demonrats, they can do as they please and nobody goes to jail. Now if a Republican admin had done this, it’d be the most “evil thing” in the history of America. Remarkable how these Satanic cretins keep topping themselves every day.
My husband and I stood outside in line for almost three hours to vote in 2020, it drizzled for a good bit of that time. No problem, it was the right thing to do. Then 10pm rolled around election Eve and the voting had stopped in Georgia the building was flooding, which we all know now was a small toilet leak. My husband and I looked at each other and said, “that’s it, the fix is in”. Hell and high water (no pun intended) was going to put Joe Biden in the White House. What a waste of time.
I don’t think ANY land was ‘destroyed’.
It works every GoM hurricane.
Favor = reach around
Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t...but never let a crisis go to waste.
It is a shame some well footed conservative investors won’t be the one’s swooping in and taking a foothold to do the right things.
Amazing how all those celebrity mansions escaped completely unscathed. How . . . fortuitous.
The fire knew where to stop
I’m not will to go to well planned.
Especially since I think some of the delay in the actual death toll is they are trying to hold off announcing how many kids have died. Word is a lot of kids were home from closed schools while parents were working and could not or did k no it evacuate.
But never letting a crisis go to waste? I’m fully there.
Hawaii wildfires stoke climate denial, conspiracy theories
Washington (AFP) – Climate change-denying social media accounts are exploiting the deadly wildfires in Hawaii to push conspiracy theories that high-energy lasers were used to spark the flames.
