Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin was on the passenger list of a jet which crashed killing all on board, Russia's civil aviation authority has said.
Earlier, Wagner-linked Telegram channel Grey Zone reported that the private plane, which belonged to Prigozhin, was shot down by air defences.
It was flying from Moscow to St Petersburg, with seven passengers and three crew.

Could have been a mistake by the missile defense group mistaking his plane for an Uke drone or missile.
“Grey Zone said local residents heard two bangs before the crash and saw two vapour trails.”
This is an absolute telltale sign of a spontaneous center wing tank explosion. Just ask the NTSB, the FBI, or the CIA, none of which would ever tell a lie.

I don’t think it was Putin—he would have dispatched him a lot sooner—and in a more dramatic way. Its not safe to betray Mother Russia when Putin’s in charge. This has been the case since the time of Ivan the Terrible. My bet it was The French or English that did it. Wasn’t the fellow going to Africa to help Niger? Who just listed Wagner as a terrorist organization? No, I think CIA or even Ukraine did the deed (or helped). They did it here to blame Putin. What would have happened it he fell out of the sky over Africa? Or Syria? The eye would be cast on the CIA or Israelis.
Prigozhin thought he was untouchable because he knew all of Putin’s secrets and commanded great wealth through Wagner’s neo-colonial activities in Africa.
That General Surovikin, rumored to be in alliance with Prigozhin, was formally dismissed this week from his position and now the order given to shoot down the plane carrying Prigozhin and Utkin (the military leader of Wagner) means that the FSB/SVR cracked the secrets of Prigozhin, probably after torturing multiple underlings for information, and was now in a position to move on Wagner.
I think this means that there is a modus vivendi between Shoigu/Gerasimov and the Secret Police services (FSB/SVR) and therefore the Russian military was permitted by the latter to get their revenge for the shooting down of Russian military aircraft and the killing of Russian air servicemen by Wagner during the march on Moscow.
Remember, Putin is a career secret policeman who made himself Ruler-for-Life in Russia through assassinations and intimidation, theft and rewarding of supporters with graft, propaganda and control of the media and rigging elections.
Now that Putin is fading in terms of his energy and abilities, the power is shifting more to the secret police/intel agency organizations (not the military) through which power is exercised in Russia. (Our own federal police/intel agencies and MSM propaganda organs appear to aspire to the Russian way of doing things.)
I think this means there is a new stability in the coalition ruling Russia that they felt they could move against Wagner this way.
Note also that the Russian regime has successfully jailed Igor “Strelkov” Girkin who was effectively the thought leader of the rather large hardliner “patriotic” imperialist segment of Russian society with little or no consequence from his supporters.
There will be a lot of moves behind the scenes for the ruling coalition to grab control of Wagner’s African operations and wealth and suppress any support for Wagner in Russian society.

On the day when Russia blasts one of its mercenaries out of the sky, we have people who are so eager to favorably compare Russia with the United States, or that we’re no better.
