Modelo Especial knocked off Bud Light from its decades-long perch as the nation’s top-selling beer in the wake of the Dylan Mulvaney controversy that sparked a boycott of the Anheuser-Busch brand.
Sales of Modelo at groceries and beer stores for the year outpaced Bud Light — the first time the brand has beaten Bud Light on a year-to-date basis, according to the latest data from NielsenIQ, whose figures were first reported by CNN.
Modelo, which is distributed in the US by New York-based Constellation Brands, had an 8.34% share of dollars spent on beer compared to 8.28% for Bud Light through Aug. 12, NIQ reported.

No, it’s not. Read the details. Previously, Bud Light was beat by Modelon on a year over year basis. The news here is that Modelo surpassed Bud Light sales for the entire 2023, for the first time.

I Tried Modelo Negra on a whim when HEB was out of Shiner Dark... I think I have found a new favorite beer.
Bud Light has gone as low as $0 after mail in rebate. Nobody wanted it.
FYI....outside of u.s.(Mexico) Grupo Modelo is owned by InBev. In u.s. Modelo is distributed by Constellation brands. So buying Modelo made beer in u.s. is still loosely connected to InBev holdings. I thinks it’s best to avoid ANY InBev products or breweries owned by InBev, and there are many many of them.
Can’t let our thirst for beer benefit InBev. Research the beer you buy and stop buying inBev beers. Plus, there are many many better beers.

American beer is so good, we have to import brands.

Why Modello? I’ve had and always buy Dos Equis...to me it just is a great tasting beer.
Modelo gets you more drunk on fewer beers in my experience. Hence their motto, “Beer That Works.”
