Kevin McCarthy's run as Speaker is finished. Is Matt Gaetz a villain or a hero?

Is Matt Gaetz a hero or a villain?

The camera-loving Republican from Florida who threatened to shut down the government and who masterminded the ousting of Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday has made more than a few enemies in Congress.

He doesn’t care; he represents a district in Florida that hasn’t gone Democrat in decades and that went for former President Trump in 2020 by 68% to 29%. That means that in 2018, for instance, election gurus gave him 99% odds of being reelected, even though his approval rating was a dismal 20% -- worse than Joe Biden.

Re: 198 - I need to do some more research on this, as his Heritage Foundation Rating is 90 Lifetime.

I see this for deficit reduction:

Limit, Save, Grow Act - “The Limit, Save, Grow Act establishes spending reforms and pro-growth policies that vastly outweigh the debt ceiling dollar amount increase. This historic proposal would institute more than $4.5 trillion in savings and pro-growth reforms to restore the nation’s fiscal house following the Left’s reckless spending of more than $6 trillion since President Biden took office.”

Gaetz was one of four Republicans who voted No along with ~211 Democrats.

All the governors initially honored the federal guidance the Trump Administration issued to shut down for the ridiculous"15 Days to Slow the Spread" lie.

The smart ones, like DeSantis and Kemp, figured out Fauci was taking Trump for a ride and defied the federal guidance after that.

So no, Trump doesn't get any credit for issuing bogus federal guidelines.

Voting "No" meant that he was voting against raising the debt ceiling.

With the increase in the debt ceiling it still would have increased total spending.

I gave you the last three huge budget battle votes where Matt voted all no. Now you given me links from 2018.

I can't debug those links at the moment. Perhaps later.

But I'm not sure why you think you are making the cost cutter argument when the guy you are defending, McCarthy is the worst, whilst I've demonstrated to you that Gaetz is making the right votes, at the very least, if not more, the past three very important budget votes.

Based on my failed search for the speech I was wondering if you had it or could find it. Thank you for providing it. I’ve been an Andy Biggs fan from the time he was elected to the Congress. A stark reminder of what our three elected Representatives fail to offer.

That would be one actual Representative and two fake ones called Senator, but all three are establishment globalists unwilling to fight for “We the People” and our sovereignty.

My point is that Gaetz had less problems with budgetary spending extensions, two year budgets, earmarks and the like when Republicans were in control in the House. He got religion, so to speak when Democrats were running the show. In other words he’s not consistent but projects the illusion that he is.

A replacement for McCarthy who has a low Heritage Lifetime Rating - well, we’ll see how they do. And we’ll see if Gaetz wields as much influence.

Moderates and Independents are increasingly becoming convinced that the GOP as it is currently constituted is not a serious governing party and is held hostage by kooks and grifters.

And they're right. The real problem is that your wing of the party is the "kooks and grifters." McConnell, McCarthy, et al., are the grifter wing. CRs, throwing money at Ukraine, etc., are just indications to America that the RINOs and the Democrats are walking hand-in-hand to the trough to feed on our tax dollars. So, yes, you are right. The middle is repulsed by "Republicans." They just identify "Republicans" with you.

I dont know if its possible to do a poll on this site but i read tHru 100 posts to see.

60 people thought he was a hero and 5 villain. The rest did not specify.

Its amazing how many talking heads were against gaetz today. They are the fiends to me. You cant pound the drum for 20 years about the debt and then cave like a cheap suit when someone actually takes a STAND. This is a good thing, you’ll see.

Like him or not, I personally applaud what Matt Gaetz did.   Rather than take the easy way out, he took a bold and courageous stand against these incredibly phony-promising liars and pretenders.   McCarthy said, "bring it on", and Gaetz replied, "just did".

While many FReepers here today were praising (as I do) Hammering Patrick McHenry for moving Pelosi out of her special office (due to her deceptive treachery), one of McHenry's fellow RINOS, Rep. Mike Lawler, points out in this clip that he shares McHenry's anger (displayed here by his extra-heavy gaveling), whose anger Lawler admitted was mainly directed at Matt Gaetz, (who Lawler says here that he personally would have hit with that gavel, right between his eyes).   (Terroristic threat?)

Watch this very short youtube clip to see what I'm talking about.

"Patrick McHenry Slams Gavel After McCarthy's Historic Ouster"

I think the most interesting thing about this clip is the comments that follow it there on youtube, which mostly attack and bash Lawler and all these other RINOS who prefer their usual wussy demonic-rat-light actions to the actions of someone in DC who actually finally did something real for a change.

I’m amazed by all of the people who think there is no plan, simply because it had not been previously advertised.

Republican tend to be pretty stupid strategically. (vs Democrats who are just pure evil).
