Trump would accept House speakership for a 'short period' while Republicans decide on a permanent replacement

Former President Trump told Fox News Digital that he would accept a short-term role as speaker of the House of Representatives to serve as a "unifier" for the Republican Party until lawmakers reach a decision on who should take on the post.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., was removed as speaker of the House Tuesday after Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., introduced a measure against him known as a motion to vacate, accusing him of breaking promises he made to win the speaker's gavel in January.

"I have been asked to speak as a unifier because I have so many friends in Congress," Trump told Fox News Digital. "If they don’t get the vote, they have asked me if I would consider taking the speakership until they get somebody longer-term, because I am running for president."

Apparently President Trump is a bigger Patriot and more American than anyone else in Washington DC.

I would love for this to happen. Just the thought of all the dems, who hate this country, screaming at the moon would be delightful.

Main reason I think this is a great move is because McCarthy supposedly had a deal with the Democrats to back him up if he decides to keep the government open. Guess what, they didn’t do that. Fine. Trump is now Speaker. We need to play Chess for once.

Just long enough to run the Biden impeachment hearings. I'd pay money to see that.

I don't think it will happen, but I'd love to be wrong.

If I was to select anyone to straighten out this mess, it would be President Trump.

His ascension to Speaker would also make him third in line to be president.

I’m watching for liberal heads to explode!

I do not think he should do that. The RINO’s and Democrats will lay traps for him at every opportunity to try and make him look bad.

Temp. S of H - I’d pick John James (R-Mich).

I’m sick and tired of the Republicans playing whiffle ball while the Democrats play hardball.

Electing Trump as Speaker would be a hardball move. Do it.

I see pros and cons to it.

Maybe he knows it won’t happen and makes the gesture to help temporarily, just to show he really does want to help.

If he doesn’t push it beyond the first offer, it helps him.

“The RINO’s and Democrats will lay traps for him at every opportunity to try and make him look bad.”

Yeah, it is probably better that he hide under his bed for a while, just so that the RINO’s and Democrats don’t lay traps for him at every opportunity, and who also try to make him look bad. He would never be able to handle it (sarc)!

This the art of the deal or Sun Tzu in process folks. He can separate sheep an goats. Wheat and chaff. Find out who he can work deals with an who he can’t while at same time telling them what he can do once hes elected and those that buck him? well we know loyalty is big deal for him I would not want to be one of those GOP once hes back in oval office!

I do not think he should do that.

It won't happen. A number of those "Republicans" voted to convict him (many gone, of course).

Trump is just trolling. Not a problem.

Although I see all this Trump-as-Speaker talk as pie-in-the-sky impossibility, I'm starting to warm up to the concept of it being a healthy conversation.

Even though Trump won't be Speaker, it seems to be opening up the conversations to healthy topics. I like a little bit of: "Okay, then. If not Trump, then who can be most like him?" And, "Who in the House are showing us through these conversations that they're the most anti-Trump RINOs so we can vote them out in 2024?"
