Here’s a version of Kris singing with Johnny Cash, who did the best cover of it.

This is the song Kris wrote and presented to June in her backyard via helicopter. When he handed her the music, he said to her:
"I've just written Johnny's next hit"
He was right and Johnny's version is the first recording of that song. Chris released his version after he became a star, with a big push from Johnny Cash.
As an aside: At my son's wedding, some years ago, I met the guitar player who toured with Kris (and others) and was a studio guitarist in Nashville. In our discussion he confirmed the story to me, correcting some errors in version I had heard years earlier.
I love that song. Don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad rendition of it.
