WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Hardline conservative Jim Jordan told his fellow Republicans he will suspend his bid to serve as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and back Republican Patrick McHenry to fill the role on a temporary basis, a lawmaker said on Thursday.

“I say Gaetz can keep pulling the rug out form under each RINO as the take the speakership. Fun to watch.”
Until the Democrats get the concessions they want. Then they’ll vote present and Gaetz won’t have the numbers.

“Looks like Matt Gaetz got set-up by the Democrats.”
This sh!tshow is 1000% attributable to Republican disunity and Matt Gaetz was the prime mover of that disunity.
How naive would anyone have to be that somehow Democrats would step up to help Republicans fill a job that was theirs for the filling?
Thank you, Congressman Gaetz for exposing the corruption of the Uniparty, and throwing it right in the face of the American people. Now I can move on to the more important things in life...praise the Lord.
Your fixation on rape particularly in lieu of your support of Gaetz continues to be somewhat disturbing and revealing about you.
“McCarthy fights 15 rounds for Speakership
Jim Jordan quits after 2 rounds (with no one else in sight)
We have no real fighters on our side.
No wonder they easily get rolled by the RATs.”
Losing repeatedly isn’t “fighting.” McCarthy eventually “won” a prize that wasn’t worth winning by setting himself up for failure with the motion to vacate business.
Jordan has got nothing left to negotiate away. He already conceded Ukrainian aid. And the hold-outs are pissed at what they see as high pressure tactics.
Murdoch and Koch and the rest were happy with the tax breaks.
As for foreign trade, the rhetoric was A+, the execution was C-.
The combined U.S. goods and services trade deficit increased to $679 billion in 2020, compared to $481 billion in 2016, the year before Trump took office. The trade deficit in goods alone hit $916 billion, a record high and an increase of about 21 percent from 2016.
That’s not entirely true as he is refusing to withdraw and wants to now hold the Speakership itself hostage until they agree to vote him in. He just wants to do it in a way that doesn’t make the entire public hate his guts, so he wants to give some temporary power to McHenry, who would rather just elect a Speaker and get on with his life.
The Democrats knew that if they voted to remove the Speaker, that the Republicans could never unify to elect a Speaker.
They must have enticed and encouraged Matt Gaetz to move to remove the Speaker, all the while knowing the ultimate outcome.
