WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Hardline conservative Jim Jordan told his fellow Republicans he will suspend his bid to serve as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and back Republican Patrick McHenry to fill the role on a temporary basis, a lawmaker said on Thursday.

“I don’t know if this will pass the constitutional test.”

I listened to one of the conservative house members make this point a few days ago. He also was concerned about precedents. The effect once started, this process will then become the norm.

If the house will not elect Jordan, then no speaker. The house will not do anything useful anyway.

Because he kept getting fewer votes.

Not looking to troll or be trolled.
I was of the W.F. Buckley camp of “best to elect the most conservative Republican possible” until Trump came along, and I threw in with him. Still am.
Do you have any suggestions how to best manage as a Republican bare majority until Trump returns in 2025?

Yes, I see. Did McCarthy always inch closer to winning in each of his 15 rounds? What is the best we can hope for here?

I say Gaetz can keep pulling the rug out form under each RINO as the take the speakership. Fun to watch.

I guess a true conservative to you is globalist free trader, right?

Just give it to the rats. Easy. Won’t anything be different than if a RINO pos gets it. Burn it all down. Let’s get where we’re headed a little bit quicker.

Pelosi and Jeffries will very quickly eat McHenry alive.

Agreed. You can say goodbye to the impeachment inquiry, to spending cuts and to any oversight of the FBI and Justice Department. This what happens when you blindly follow head banging grandstanders like Matt Gaetz.

I know this crowd doesn’t want to hear it but Jordan can’t win because that would validate Gaetz. And McCarthy’s buddies will never allow that. Payback is a b*

We can certainly find a more conservative speaker than the last one. If Gaetz was smart he would stay out of the battle, but he’s more concerned about his own image in prep for replacing DeSantis.

In the meantime there is a country to run and GOP will surely lose the House in 2024 if they don’t figure this out.

The problem with that is that the way this works, with no Speaker, they can’t stop spending the money either...

“McCarthy fights 15 rounds for Speakership
Jim Jordan quits after 2 rounds (with no one else in sight)
We have no real fighters on our side.
No wonder they easily get rolled by the RATs.”

THIS!

The 9 who voted to vacate need to reject this “offer”.

Republicans are going down hard after two years of broken promises.

Yep, they have surrendered to the uniparty, no sense voting for a Republican if they are simply assistants to democrats.

Are any of the 20-22 Rinos refusing to vote for Jordan up for re-election next month?

The truth is stranger. McHenry doesn’t want the job, and Jordan only wants to saddle him with it a few months until he believes he can wrangle everyone into supporting his bid to be Speaker, while refusing to withdraw.

“However, there’s this thing called reality and we all need to become familiar with it.”

Why should we start that now? After the winningest streak in the history of America. That’s sarcasm BTW. I’ve learned that you sometimes are better off pointing out sarcasm.

Trump rejecting conservatism on foreign trade was a wonderful thing. Probably the very best policy he had. And it’s why the globalist oligarchs like Charles Koch and Rupert Moloch hate him so much. These billionaires have manipulated Republican voters for so long into outsourcing our country and opening the borders.

Trump is more of a nationalist than a conservative. I wish he were conservative on the life issue but he has made clear that he wants localism instead of baby protection. Pence should never be president but he is taking the conservative position on abortion. DeSantis has backed away from conservatism on abortion as well. The public, sadly, seems to want abortion on demand from what all the referenda results say. That’s why I say this is a godless majority country.
