Biden, first lady visit Maine to grieve with community in wake of Lewiston mass shooting

President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden visited Maine to grieve with a community reeling from a mass shooting that left 18 people dead and 13 others wounded.

The Bidens arrived in Lewiston on Friday afternoon, where they met with survivors, families of the victims and first responders. They were greeted upon their arrival by Governor Janet Mills, Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline and other local officials.

Their first stop was Schemengees Bar, one of the locations of last week's mass shooting. Biden carried a bouquet of white flowers in one hand and held the first lady’s hand in the other as they stopped at a memorial placed outside the bar with candles and signs, and held a moment of silence.

Biden then delivered remarks at the bowling alley where the gunman first stopped on Oct. 25. There, he took a moment to pay respect to the victims and renew his call for greater gun control measures.

"No pain is the same but we know what it's like to lose a piece of our soul, and the depths of loss is so profound. Some of us have been there," Biden said.

"Eighteen precious souls stolen, 13 wounded: Children, grandchildren, spouses, siblings, parents, grandparents, bowling coaches, union workers, beloved members, advocates and friends of Lewiston's deaf and hard of hearing community. All of them lived lives of love and service and sacrifice."

While Biden didn't explicitly renew his call for an assault weapons ban, as he urged the day after the shooting, he said its time for "commonsense" reforms.

"This is about commonsense, reasonable, responsible measures to protect our children, our families, our communities…Because regardless of our politics, this is about protecting our freedom to go to a bowling alley, a restaurant, a school, a church, without being shot and killed."

I know they serve a certain part of the community, but those Sign Language Insets are usually a major distraction.

No mention of some of the people yelling at him to” get lost, we don’t want you here!”
(I cleaned up the language, but you get the idea!)

RE: Does Biden ever memorize anything? It seems that he reads from Teleprompters or cards.

Biden: “And as sure as the Sun comes up in.... read next page and look at audience.... the East, I’m going to win this election. Wait for applause.”

I generally agree with you. They are a distraction and in most cases, especially in this day and age of CC. However, this time I'll give them a pass, because if I remember correctly, there was a deaf bowling team among the murdered.

Their first stop was Schemengees Bar,

They simply aren't able to keep up, are they.

I went there too [on Street View] on the night of the shootings because it was the beginning of 11 Cheshvan and the first stop for the perp was the place called "Just in Time".

That was a weird name under the circumstances, but even more so because initial news coverage referred to it by its former name, "Spare Time". For the name of a bowling alley, the previous name looked the better of the two. Whatever.

Well, it turned out that across the street from the Schemengees sign is a decrepit house with cedar shakes aged to black (converted to apartments, looks like) with the address of 540. Considering the date... of 11 Cheshvan (540 = קבר רחל) ...

There was much more to see in the vicinity. For example, along the road, the Geiger sign positioned above the Mt. Hope Cemetery sign.

Geiger is located at 70 Mt. Hope, and I also learned that

1. Geiger's method was developed for determining earthquake locations, and
2. a Geiger is a violin player; e.g Der Geiger is the Fiddler

The modern Hebrew word for a violin is a kinnor, so if you triangulate all of those data points, King David suddenly materializes out of nowhere, just in time, when all Hope is presumed to be lost.

In any case, the reports were that the shooter was eventually found dead in "Lisbon Falls" of all places, which was already a place/date set on my calendar a few weeks back, because of an issue involving the courthouse.

Well, not just that, because this horrific event opened the subject of the mental facilities having been shuttered long ago:

68 years earlier, which was 200 years to the day later, they didn't mess around. Says there that Otis Peabody was sent off to the county asylum on that date, for insisting that a space zombie had crashed into his barn.

***

Fiddlers:

"Geiger’s method, developed at the beginning of the last century (Geiger, 1910, 1912), is the classical source location method by all accounts. In addition to its long history, the method is the best known and most widely used source location method. In seismology, it is used almost universally for local earthquake location." LINK

1 Samuel 16.16 Let our lord now command your servants, who are before you, to seek out a man, who knows how to play on a kinnor; and it shall come to pass,

when the evil spirit from God is upon you,

that he shall play with his hand,

and you shall be well:

That (some murdered members of the bowling team were deaf)
changes everything. It was appropriate.
Most of those communities are very close and dear to each other.

He also forgot to mention that the shooter was a government employee, and that even though the Army, the Maine state government, the local government, and police and sheriffs from all over the area knew that the shooter was armed, dangerous, and threatening a mass murder they did nothing to stop him.

They sure did spend a lot of time explaining all the hard work they were doing after the murders though. You know they had to find every single shell casing and bullet even though they had video and lots of eye witnesses.

We will not soon forget the fateful day when Obama bin Laundner blew up the hoover dam and so many lives were lost as the Ohio River flooded into downtown Omaha. my son Beau was tragically killed when his helicopter flew too low and was swept away into the Great Salt Lake. It seems like only yesterday, even though it was in 1891, the year our great nation was founded by the wisdom and foresight of the Pony Express. I could tell you so many other stories, like how anybody actually voted for me. But I will save those for another time.

“I know how you feel” is absolutely the WORST thing to say to a bereaved person, even if your personal bereavement matches theirs almost perfectly.

No, you do NOT truly “know” how they feel.

Better to shut the f*** up.
