JD Vance: Ohio’s abortion vote ‘was a gut punch’
The Hill ^ | 11/08/2023 | Elizabeth Crisp

Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) says his state’s vote Tuesday to enshrine abortion rights “was a gut punch” for anti-abortion officials such as himself.

In a lengthy post online, Vance, who campaigned against the effort to ensure abortion access, attempted to parse out why the measure won with support from nearly 57 percent of voters.

I think it’s likely that they’ve already alienated too many women to salvage 2024.

Pretty much. There are no easy solution, so embrace the losses, Freepers.

Whomever wrote it, meant to damage the GOP.

And you wonder why we call it, “The Stupid Party”.

Something has to change. We are getting killed at the polls.

Republicans are losing to the communists because of corrupt colleges, corrupt media, and a whole helluva lot of good old election cheating that is being approved by the corrupt courts. And half of the republicans are in on the scam! Period!

On measures like this we should call it for what it is… baby killing that will allow butchers like Gosnell to let women bleed out without repercussions.

Give it ten years… there will be some blood stained clinic where a dozen women die and the ‘doctor’ walks in Ohio.

Then someone will have the guts to take the fight in the manner in needs to be fought.

Yup.

Democrats campaigned on desegregation, immigration, abortion, gay marriage, Obamacare even when they were unpopular.

But they got them passed, they became institutionalized, and the public followed the lead of elites and institutions.

That’s what Repub and Western conservatives generally don’t understand.

The public doesn’t lead. They follow. They obey institutions and elites, even if they disagreed with it initially.

The left has captured every institution, and they control everything. And they are changing the population’s thinking on everything.

They will rule until this Regime collapses.

“Issues like this should not be put to a popular vote”

Good luck with that now that abortion rights have won on the ballot in even deep red states.

Nope. If the GOP continues to press abortion as a national issue, they will get wiped out.

See I agree with you on that point. I would even argue that they are already wiped out. And I don’t care.

As I say, If/When the Stupid Party begins to embrace conservatism, then and only then will we start to climb back.

If, God forbid, your child was raped...

And if, God forbid, you decided that your grandchild should be killed to somehow fix the situation...

Why on earth would you wait longer than 6 weeks to do something about it?

Current Ohio law would allow you take abortion pills or get an abortion up until 6 weeks.

The states should send it back to Congress.

If that were true, than Biden and his agenda would popular. He is despised. Abortion is the only issue keeping Dems alive, and the post 10/ 07 Left wing Antiserism fallout hasn’t even hit yet.

They should be smart about it. Trump has been saying it for awhile now and he’s right. Put up a ballot initiative that prevents abortion during delivery unless the life of the mother is in jeopardy. That’s a win in the books and you work from there. 9 months. No abortions in the 10th month. Build momentum. Starting with a 6 week ban is obviously not a strategy that is working.

stop about abortion and concentrate on taxes and crime.
Not everybody believes the same thing and they vote accordingly.

“The states should send it back to Congress.”

Wasn’t the point of overturning Roe to send it back to the states. This is why this issue will keep kicking GOP asses.
Keep saying one thing and then doing something different.

Overturn Roe because it’s a states-rights issue. Oh wait, even deep red states are voting to keep it legal. Send it back to congress.

People need to understand that politics is downstream of culture.

We are seeing that we are now losing politically because we already lost our culture 10-20 years ago.

Christian people need to understand that we no longer live in a Christian nation. We are like the Israelites among the Canaanites.

Instead of bitching about losing at the polls, it would be instructive to look at what happened over the past 20 years to get us to where we are now.

I would suggest that porn, cable TV, the entertainment industry, the ACLU, various lawyer guilds, etc.... intentionally eroded the Christian fabric of our country and left us with the God-less, hedonistic, virtue-less, materialistic culture that is now voting for all of these policies.

“stop about abortion and concentrate on taxes and crime.”

I seem to remember that the GOP had really good luck with:
Lower taxes
Low unemployment
Smaller government

Well, looking at the vote in Ohio yesterday, abortion rights won by a comfortable margin.

And Trump carried Ohio by a comfortable margin.

That suggests that a significant portion of Trump voters, also voted for abortion rights.

Mike Gallagher was talking about this today on his talk show. He was talking about how even more moderate or conservative women, are voting Democrat and voting for abortion rights, because they don’t want abortion to be illegal. Perhaps they will vote for conservative candidates after liberalized abortion laws are passed in their states. But when abortion is the issue, even some more conservative people don’t want strict bans on abortion.
