DeSantis’s Campaign Is Irrelevant if the GOP Voters Want Trump
Townhall ^ | Dec. 28, 2023 | Kurt Schlichter

Posted on 01/03/2024 9:48:20 PM PST by chickenlips

The GOP primaries and caucuses have not actually started, but Donald Trump appears from the polling to be way ahead. I prefer Ron DeSantis, but if you are betting, you would probably put your money on Donald Trump being nominated again. So be it. That’s what primaries are for—to find out what the base wants and to do that. And if that’s what the base wants, that’s what it should get. I’m going to support the nominee whether it is Ron DeSantis or Donald Trump or… well, it’s going to be one of those two. And I am still going to continue to support the nominee even if it is Donald Trump and he picks Nikki Haley as his vice presidential running mate, which I totally see him doing. I am a Republican, and my party winning is what matters first.

An upset victory by Ron DeSantis in Iowa would probably end all the ridiculous commentary about how Ron DeSantis is somehow running a terrible campaign.

SNIP>>>>

The reality is that Ron DeSantis has a real challenge in this election in the form of a popular, at least among Republican voters, ex-president who is running again. Republicans like Donald Trump. No one else does. Independents don’t like him, and Democrats positively loathe him to the extent that he would generate huge turnout numbers even for the senile, desiccated old pervert he will be running against (unless they trade Crusty out for Governor Hairstyle). The only path for Ron DeSantis is to somehow get around the fact that Republicans still like Donald Trump. And they should still like Donald Trump. He can be very annoying, but he was also a pretty good president overall and would probably be perfectly acceptable if he won reelection.

I'm sure there will be no disagreement with any of this. /s

It’s all conjecture on Schlichter’s part. He wants to be “for” RdS (having already committed himself) but not be viewed as a weenie by Common Sense Normal America that KNOWS Trump is the right choice for all the right reasons.

Sucks to be Kurt right now. But sucks even worse to be Ronnie-boi.

It sucks to be us if the butthurt DeSantis supporters stay home for the general. If Trump lost the primaries, DeSantis is a decent alternative. I won’t be a sore loser.

This is a politics writer who is writing about things he does not understand.

Politics is forever changed. Independents don’t hate Trump. The writer wants that to be so because he has a deep, instinctive desire to keep Trump’s populist message denied, and he suspects the Independents like that message.

But he will fail. The change is forever. Drain the Swamp is far more important than governance.

I really like Kurt, but this article is rather thin gruel for him.

When a Republic has a fake election it is no longer a Republic. It is a Dictatorship. Nanzi's coup came complete with a Propaganda Production designed to lure in Trump Voters and toss them in her DC Gulag. Nazi's problem is that her coup did not have a complete success. She failed in her attempt to nationalize elections and the Senator conspiracy failed to kill the Filibuster.

Why mention all this? Because Trump has been calling out the evil the entire time. The way that evil has focused on Trump only proves he is the man we want. Sorry Kurt. I want the evil exorcised and Trump is the man to do it.

You undermine your own team.

De Santis must be thought of as the bench. To see reality, one must take a wider view

DeSantis’s campaign was irrelevant before it ever kicked off on Twitter.

The only thing that could change my mind about voting for Trump would be if he picked Haley as his VP.<

To me it would show that he's learned nothing about the DC sewer and cleaning it would never happen by his actions. Which means that things would be left in our hands. That is not a peaceful thought.

You can see right now he’s learned nothing. He’s even more gullible than before.

>> You undermine your own team

What, in your view, is “my” team?
And how exactly did you acquire the authority to decide it?

Well, I totally disagree with Kurt’s claim “no one else does.” Quite the contrary, now over 50% of polled voters like him, and in almost all polls people like him better than Rutabaga.

Well since you’ve been on FR sice 2004, I consider myself, by default, on your team.

But I’ll admit, it doesn’t always feel that way.

Taken together, your two posts to me make no sense.
FR isn’t a “team”, but even if it were, how did my first post “undermine” it?
