After hours of public comment, the Santa Cruz City Council voted not to adopt a cease-fire resolution on Tuesday night.
The city council was slated to vote on a resolution that would've called for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. The three-page resolution also affirmed the city's "commitment and support for ceasefire and peace."
After hearing more than nine hours of public comment with support from both sides but overwhelming support for passing the resolution as is, the city council voted to adopt a substitute motion that had more watered-down language.
The substitute motion states that the city recognizes the history of conflicts in the Middle East and calls for "peaceful dialogue among all parties involved."
The chambers erupted after the council voted to adopt the substitute motion. The public shouted at city council members, calling them "monsters," and some even threw signs at the council.

Santa Cruz citizens put these Marxists in power, surprisingly someone blinked. Not that ANYONE outside of Santa Cruz or Frisco gives a truck what these weirdos have to say or think.
Isn’t it astonishing that city council people feel compelled to weigh in on international affairs? Talk about arrogance and hubris.
The Santa Cruz City Council might have a slightly inflated sense of self importance.
Exactly my question as well. While certainly individuals have the right to form their own opinion on national and international events, what business is it of a U.S. city to vote on a city-wide opinion? They don't live in Israel, they don't have access to the facts as they actually occurred, and are doubtless relying on the lamestream lying media on which to base their opinions. This was a ludicrous undertaking.
I’d wager that they don’t stay in their own lane on the FReeway, either!
As far as I know, Santa Cruz has no army or diplomats.
How about voting on a cease fire between criminals and law-abiding citizens in your own town?
I eagerly await the Santa Cruz City Council’s position on the Hungarian border fence. Then perhaps they can comment on the price of rice in Thailand.

But, apparently they have a major case of self-aggrandizement AND chutzpah.
Yeah, I’m not connecting any dots here… but apparently our lowlife local councils seem to think they AND their opinions matter to the rest of the world. Truly, I’m hoping this spreads.....and the pro terrorist faction burn down halls everywhere. Cuz that’s what they really want to do (in the name of politics, of course 😉)
This is leftist virtue signalling. The only thing they want is for Israel to cease firing. Hamas had a ceasefire and then broke it and its been fire away since then. Hamas only wants a one way slaughter of Jews. They hate it when those pesky Jews fight back. And when they are losing big time like now well its cease fire at all costs. Western leftists are quite happy to support evil Hamas.
LOL. Great metaphor!
What a waste of time. If I were Jewish, I’d high-tail it outta Santa Cruz.
And does anyone really care if they have such a policy?
They need to learn to stay in their lane, stick to their knitting.
lol! 👏🏻
“People are too damn lazy to peddle a frickin’ bike?”
They are liberals and liberals think they know what everybody should do and will order them to do it.
Santa Cruz has a large Jewish community, and they are politically active.
Like Israel GAF what a tiny county in Northern California thinks about their war with Hamas. Such hubris, lol.
