Regardless of the possibilities in an active war, she gets max credit for being who and what she is, especially at that age.

beats sitting on the bridge, blocking traffic for earth's sake.

Regards what if she gets captured and gets the expected treatment, the possibility of getting testicles cut off and stuffed into the mouth did not discourage a large number of male enlistees.

She’s a pilot. She’s not an Air Force pilot

About two decades too early for me.

“3rd a Navy Top Gun trainee,”

Click-bait. It doesn’t appear that she has ever piloted a jet.

My tour in Germany was spent on two AF bases, Hahn and Spangdahlem. Except for pilots, AF 2nd Lieutenants were shunted off to the side. Army butterbars like me had the kitchen sink thrown at us. I was a Chaparral Platoon Leader with several extra duties. Three months in, I was handed the second Chaparral platoon.

A few months later, I was posted to the Wing CP during a NATO tac eval. As I was showing the Wing Cdr where our gun and missile systems were deployed, an NBC input was dropped. An AF Captain, the base Disaster Preparedness Officer went overboard on his Alarm Red recommendation.

I jumped in and said, “Colonel, May I make a recommendation?” The silence was deafening. LOL, here was an Army 2nd LT speaking to 5 full bird colonels. I made the right call, Alarm Yellow, which meant no protective gear was necessary. I could see the NATO Team Chief nodding his head in approval.

It wasn’t that difficult, NBC Officer was one of my extra duties.

**Tall fighter pilots are the exception rather than rule. 5” heels are OK with me - except in the cockpit of an F-16.**

About 19 years ago I was fueling my semi at a truckstop in Indy. A Kenworth T600 pulled up to the pump next to me. And no sooner had the brakes been set, and out hopped a woman driver wearing at least 4” stilletto heel boots. She had to have already been wearing them.

If you are familiar with the brake pedal on a truck like hers, you would cringe at the thought of having to fully extend your right ankle when applying brakes.

“Girls can fly fighter jets.”

Yes, but not as well as men. Sorry, but I did 25 years in fighters. Men handle the G-forces better and are much more likely to stay in for the long term. Men are also almost always more aggressive in flying, which is good in fighters (not so good in other types of flying).

I remember the Iraqis quickly gave Shoshana Johnson back … probably for the same reason you’d immediately return a pet lion to its owner, while you might keep a puppy or kitten for a while.

My wife’s family of 6 went on out-of-the-way camping trips, and had an 8 man tent, hence the comment. She remembers as a kid trying to hold it up over her head here and there while her dad and brothers set it up.

“But well being able to take and extra quarter G can come in handy.”

Disagree. A fighter is NOT a centrifuge. Upper body strength becomes a factor and women don’t have as much. Writing as someone who has pulled neck and back muscles while moving under Gs. And who has been around women fighter pilots.

Top Gun is Navy. Air Force Pilots do not attend Top Gun. I believe they train at Red Flag. We used to fly as Aggressors against them. Just saying, great accomplishment.

Upper body strength matters in modern fly-by-wire fighters? Uh huh. And Gs don’t matter in a dogfight? Guess we wasted millions on actual centrifuges for training and G suits.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

Not long ago, I’d congratulate her, but everything is suspicious.

My first suspicion is that this is pandering to white males since the military can't get white recruits. Why would they pick an actual female with brains and skills when just up until now they were looking for trannies and "diverse" people who "identified" as women?
