Man is mauled by dogs walking home from the bus stop in Detroit

A Detroit man who was mauled by three dogs as he walked home from a bus stop has died from his injuries.

Harold Phillips, a 35-year-old father, died Friday evening, four days after he was attacked by the dogs as he walked to his house from a bus stop, his wife said.

Detroit Animal Control and Care explained how the three dogs got out of a fenced yard and viciously attacked him. Phillips was hospitalized following the attack and had to have his right arm amputated but things went from bad to worse.

The three dogs owner, Roy Goodman, has been fined $5,000 for not following city's ordinance and failing to secure the animals, WWJ reported. "To the Phillips family, I'm so sorry," Roy Goodman told WXYZ.

In 2021, one of the dogs belonging to the Goodmans bit a child, according to Detroit Animal Care and Control. Court records then detail how in January 2021, Goodman was charged with failing to prevent an animal from engaging in nuisance/menacing behavior, a misdemeanor.

He pleaded guilty at the time but the case was dismissed.

A pack of Chihuahuas. Seriously I was confronted by one of those eight-pound crazy maniacs in our subdivision many years ago. The damned thing came flying across the street at me and followed me all the way home trying to get to one of my ankles. Not embarrassed to say the thing scared hell out of me. And I’m used to big angry dogs. Any dog no matter what the size can inflict serious injury on a human if the situation favors the dog.

It’s unclear what breed of dog it was. I can guess which breed of dog it was.

Are you in kindergarten? A man was killed brutally. He had a good-looking family. Grow up

Why not apply for a job as an editor? If you’re not bright enough to know what the headlines means, there’s no help for you.

I had a female German Shepherd who bit a guy. She was in quarantine for 10 days & then I had her put down. Family was upset with me but the vet said that since she had bitten someone, I was at risk of harboring a dangerous animal & her next bite could cost me my hose.

I called the guy she bit & talked to his wife & told her my plans & she got upset with me. I found out later they had a couple chows that had bitten people & she thought I was overreacting.

Another bad dog owner responsible for killing someone. He should be brought up on murder or at least manslaughter charges for making his dogs mean and dangerous.

Oh, MY. I remember when I was running and road racing often. One very early morning, I could not sleep, so I decided to get an early run in, about 4:30am. After about half an hour, I noticed a pack of dogs about half a mile away. Some of the dogs in the pack looked fairly domesticated. Others, not so much. I decided to run directly home. I love dogs, mostly.

No jokes; rather an accurate comment on the poorly worded lede.

One time a neighbor's dog got loose and started after me. I turned to face him and with a stern voice said "NO!". That stopped the dog in its tracks. He went back home. I was lucky.

I think people make the mistake of running away or becoming agitated. Motion excites the dogs. A moving target.

Very sad a man lost his life. R.I.P.

Prayers for the family.

Someone should give him a 5 minute head start in the woods and turn 3 pitbulls out to catch him.

Well, there is more to the quote...

'To the Phillips family, I'm so sorry, nothing I can do can make this right. But if there's anything I can do, I will.'

Physically big muscular innocent person eaten alive by dogs raised to fight. Very primitive society in these big cities. Need to declare war on them. No trials. Maybe tribunals. If they survive apprehension.

Possibly. It has happened. I remember some woman went to prison after her dogs killed someone, but it’s really unusual.

I always carry a baton when out walking. Not as good as a firearm, but not as heavy and doesn’t have the telltale shape to print through your clothes. Although I have been known to carry a firearm at times.

That's mighty nice of you. Now how about supporting the man's wife and children for the rest of their lives?

That's not necessarily a bad idea. The Bible does say to take up the cause of the widow and the orphan.
