I’m so old I remember when trying to beat up a New York City cop wouldn’t end well.

I grew up in NYC, went to Catholic school. Half my classmates fathers were cops or firemen. The police commissioner's daughter was in high school with me. (Co-institutional, not co-ed.) Back in the day, if you assaulted a cop, you would have been lucky to see the inside of a courtroom.
