Trump Must Pay Half a Billion Dollars Before He Can Appeal New York Decision
Breitbart ^ | 02/19/2024 | JOEL B. POLLAK

Posted on 02/19/2024 1:35:33 PM PST by ChicagoConservative27

Former President Donald Trump must pay nearly half a billion dollars as a bond to New York State before he can appeal the ruling by Judge Arthur Engoron last week that he must pay $354 million in fines — over $450 million, with interest — for fraud.

Critics have noted that Trump is the only person ever to be sued under an obscure New York fraud statute that does not require any harm be done, and that effectively criminalizes the everyday practice of real estate valuations in negotiations with banks.

Though Attorney General Letitia James — who ran for office promising to target Trump — claimed that no one is above the law, her case against Trump marks the only such case in the history of the state. And the staggering fine is likewise unprecedented.

I hope every business and property owner in New York knows this ridiculous prosecution (persecution) could be leveled against them, too, if the Democrats don’t like them.

If he has millions of dollars to do that, he should.
New York won’t get the value of the land back.
Who would buy the land in a city that will turn on you for little reason.

The judgment is a clear violation of the U.S. Constitution. The entire proceeding was a travesty. Ridiculously excessive fine. Numerous violations of due process. An obscure law misapplied JUST to Donald Trump and nobody else prior.

I expect a federal judge will put a screeching halt to this in the very near future.

If the appellate court in NY would take the case.

Trump has crappy lawyers. It should never have gotten this far, so I suspect his lawyers have no idea how to deal with the verdict.

Yep, if NYC wants fewer and fewer truckers to drop loads there, just keep on dunning Trump.

He’ll make that amount easily with his $399 Trump sneakers. First round is sold out.

That $500M bond is just sheer greed. Lots of people talk about corporate greed, and it does exist, but if you want to talk about epic greed, just look to governments.

The Marxists and their enablers giggle with glee at this; however, they failed to study history and are willfully ignorant what they’re feeding will eventually turn on them.

Funny you should say that. I was thinking he should put up all his NY Properties to home the Homeless starting with the ones everyone rich and powerful live in, and then the ones next door to the rich and powerful. He could probably get Adams to take it as 1/5 a billion in Aid. If he runs out of homeless he can start on the illegals.

Drive everyone with any money out of Manhattan. See how the state and city like that. Oh and if the property’s state appointed overseers know it down, go to the poor and homeless and appeal to them that the Dems hate them and just proved it.

Kevin O’Leary (from Shark Tank) just on Neil Cavuto (Fox) . He ripped Hochul, James and all those left wing gangsters a new one. Said they are destroying NY. Worth watching.

There were no complaints Trump did anything wrong, the prosecutor simply hated Trump so she started examining everything she could to find a crime, which in this case is dubious. But Hochul assuring other businesses they will not be subject to unmotivated investigation should be a solid 14th amendment violation. It would be cool if Trump sued the state for his civil rights violations and walked away with more than this clown ordered him to pay.

New Yorkers from the Canadian border to the city have been taxed too much for decades. I recall the upstate NY citizens liked the “I like Ike buttons in the 50’s.” Businesses have left NY for many years plus people. My guess is the politicians need the Trump money. Many left NY for FL, TX, AND TN and other states.

At the state appeals level, maybe not. At the SCOTUS, I
don’t see how this case survives the light of day.
