I’m not so sure. I give Garvey a solid 20% chance of pulling this off. The D/R/Ind breakdown is about 48/24/28. We have a solid core of leftists in this state, but a lot of that 48% vote D out of habit and because democrat governance is simply the sea they always swim in. Californians like to vote for celebrities like Reagan for Governor, Sonny Bono, Schwarzenegger and numerous others. Given his background, I think Garvey has a very good chance to do very well in the Southern counties. Plus he’s an attractive and personable person and Schiff comes across as what he is.
The big problem, last I heard, was that Schiff has $33m in the bank, Garvey less than one. Bottom line, I am far from chilling the champagne but I can’t think of any other republican in the state who would have a better chance
Good points. I am cautiously optimistic about his chances. I think being a former Dodger great is going to pull some of those voters you described as well. He should be wearing a Dodger cap at every appearance.
Schiff as a senator?
Boy, scum always rises, doesn’t it. Especially in the Democrap party.
