Even bridges and roads still in operation are having names changed if they were once named for former heroes now frowned upon.
One that comes to mind is the Stand Watie Memorial Bridge and Highway in Eastern Oklahoma. Used to be a Cherokee hero now a dud because he was also a Brigadier general in the Confederate army, and the last to cease fighting. He united the tribes in Oklahoma to the Southern Cause in the Civil War.
We had a great Freeper who used the name Stand Watie. He was a great gentleman. He passed on a few years back.
