Our indecisiveness in eastern Europe signalled to our enemies that we are weak and divided — so is it any surprise that they are now trying to exploit this to their advantage?
Our adversaries — led by Russia, Iran, China and, to a lesser extent, North Korea — understand this. And they understand that, by working together, they can achieve their shared foreign policy goals and eventually reshape the global order to their advantage...
Our enemies are different heads of the same, frightening hydra — and together they have shown a great deal of discipline, coordination and aggression in pursuit of their collective interests.
In contrast, the West has been feckless and indecisive.
As Russia’s invasion turned into a war of attrition, the West’s solidarity collapsed...
Worse yet, Israel decided to ignore the dynamics of the new Cold War and courted Russia as an ally, as it believed that Moscow’s military presence in the Middle East could temper Islamist violence. And what did the Israelis get for this defection? Nothing. Russia expressed its full-throated support for Hamas after October 7, and has refused to condemn Iran’s recent bombings.
If the West had simply given Ukraine enough weapons to expel Russia two years ago, then there is no way that Iran would have considered bombing Israel today. It would have been made clear that attacking a western ally is futile and costly. Israel was put in danger because Ukraine was allowed to suffer — and because too many policymakers failed to appreciate that seemingly-disparate regional conflicts are, in truth, just different theatres of the same war...

I just don’t think Bibi gets it yet. He seems to be another self-serving politician, trying to stay in office in order to stay out of jail:

Bibi seems to be another self-serving politician,
trying to stay in office in order to stay out of jail.
He’s not very popular so I guess he’s glad a war fell in his lap.....he even got
to smack down bad ol’ Iran to get more US arms to show what a good Israeli he is.

The writer conveniently overlooks two factors. Hamas stated openly they began to plan the Oct 7 attack two years prior, after watching the debacle at Kabul unfold with the US military in disarray.
Second, Biden unleashed Iran’s oil exports right after taking office, freeing up ten times as much in revenues as they were able to get under Trump sanctions, and unfreezing tens of billions more in sequestered funds around the world. Iran had the money to pay for all these weapons and men under arms, and supplying drones to Russia etc. Without Biden’s funding, Iran could not launch a credible threat.
Israel’s actions against Hamas in Gaza in response to Oct 7 is the proximate cause of Iran posturing to make war with Israel now, not anything about the fiasco in Ukraine. If anything, Iran notes that the west has shown declining staying power in Ukraine, after pledging extravagant initial support, and may well deduce that the same will be true of support for Israel in Gaza. That is the real link between the two, which we are seeing play out now.
