Why not? Vance is a superstar; he could do the campaigning while Trump languishes in court if the VP selection were announced now.
That's exactly where I'd want him. He's a good talker when he's spoonfed his talking points. (But his photo-op at the East Palestine disaster site was low comedy, he obviously hadn't been briefed, and made a fool of himself.) Where I don't want him is representing me in the Senate. His seat was bought for him by Peter Thiel, so Silicon Valley owns him until the next election if he stays there.
