The presidential election isn’t playing out how I thought it would (CNN's Fareed Zakaria is sounding the alarms)
CNN ^ | 05/11/2024 | Fareed Zakaria

When President Joe Biden made clear that he was going to run for reelection, I had a sense of what his election strategy was and thought it was an intelligent path to victory. After the chaos of Covid-19 and the administration of former President Donald Trump, Biden would stand for normalcy and a rising tide of good economic news. Trump would divide Republicans, with significant chunks of the party wishing that someone like former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis would be their nominee. Meanwhile, Trump would unite and motivate Democrats, allowing Biden to focus on independent voters in the swing states that threw the Electoral College to Trump in 2016 and to Biden in 2020.

I have to admit, none of this is playing out as I had thought. Trump is now leading in almost all the swing states, and behind those numbers lie even more troubling details. As someone worried about the prospects of a second Trump term, I think it is best to be honest about reality. I understand that polls are not always accurate, but in general they have tended to underestimate Trump’s support, not overestimate it. I doubt that there are many shy Biden voters in the country.

The economy has been in a robust recovery for more than two years now — with unemployment hitting a 54-year low in 2023 and increasing only slightly since then — but Biden is getting little credit for it. The shift here is stark. On the question of whom voters trust more to deal with the economy, Trump has a 22-point lead over Biden, according to an NBC poll from January. This marks a 15-point bump for Trump compared to the same poll in 2020. Perhaps this is because inflation is a far more pervasive...

These types of essays - and it seems like there are more than a few - make me very suspicious. It’s as if they (they being the Left) are setting things up so they can be “happily surprised” that despite all odds, FJB wins by a landslide.

“The economy has been in a robust recovery for more than two years now “

This is what you get from lying propagandists at CNN.

“rising tide of good economic news”
........
Yeah, everyone is ecstatic with the ridiculously high prices of food, homes unaffordable, restaurants skyrocketing. Just wonderful. Joe and Janet “I’ll never retire” Yellen have got this!

These people are so removed from reality. Coupled with that they are pathological liars.

They're reporting what they know and for people like Fareed Zakaria, the economy is doing great!

You see, Zakarais doesn't shop at Walmart. He doesn't know anyone who shops at Walmart. Zakaria shops at Trader Joe's. He doesn't care if a loaf of artisinal gluten-free bread at TD's costs $12. He's a millionaire so that means nothing to him.

I meant rent skyrocketing not restaurants but they both work.

Well Fareed, maybe Your "expectations" about the upcoming election are all about where You permanently view the World from.

Every single employment number has been revised DOWN, inflation has skyrocketed. Taxes under a continued “Joe” as the Prop will take the savings of the middle class and raise the cost of everything…ON PURPOSE! The 100K Patriots that came to Wildwood yesterday are sick of it and want this corrupt Junta to be OUSTED.

Trump tax cuts are expected to expire in 2025.

An important piece of that legislation is that if you're a liberal living in a high tax state such as California or New York, you have to limit your SALT deduction to $10,000.

If Biden wins, liberals (from high tax states) will be able to claim an average of $20,000 from the SALT deduction

Trump will be better for the energy sector, the border, and the amount of new regulations, from day one.

After that he’ll need some help from a Congress that actually wants to pass a conservative agenda.

Which if the past is any indication of the future, is highly unlikely.

Yipes. After the X files worms under the skin episodes I thought I wouldn’t have to think about that stuff.

Comic said “If that worm entered Joe Biden’s skull it would die of starvation.”🧠

Fareed Zakaria…. I share Rush’s disdain for this man. How could anyone so intelligent be so simultaneously stupid?! Are he and former CNN employee Amanpour (Amanpour married a Jewish man BTW…. That did not lessen her anti-Semiism) just token hires to meet diversity requirements?!
