Adding one more year in the History of America.
My 09/11/2001 Morning:
Woke up about 10:00cst having the day off I was hungry for a huge breakfast. Normally I have a TV on 24/7/365 in My house but for some reason I didn’t have it on when I went to sleep. I took a shower, got ready and headed out to the garage. When I opened the big door it was a beautiful day, blue skies a few clouds, birds chirping. But something was out of place however I wasn’t sure what.
Got in the car and started it up backing out of the garage, set the parking brake and got out to close the garage door. As I got back in the car I turned on the radio expecting to hear some SRV, Led Zeppelin or some other song to jam to. The DJ was talking and the first thing that I heard was “ALL AIR TRAFFIC HAS BEEN GROUNDED ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!”. Then it hit Me !!! The something out of place was SILENT SKIES, No Jet Engine noise, no contrails, not even propeller noises from the local Airfield in Lago Vista, Texas...
I grew up as an Aviation Brat, Dad had worked for AA and retired after 40 years and My sister was currently working as at AA Reservations. As I sat in disbelief and listened to the DJ say “Highjacked Jets have hit both WTC Towers and they have collapsed completely, the Pentagon was hit by another jet and a 4th crashed into the ground in PA !!!”
I Prayed that I was dreaming as I backed out of the driveway thinking that this must be like when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japs for My Parents. I drove quickly to the Bar/Restaurant (the Thirsty Turtle) I worked at to have breakfast but when I got there and walked in EVERYBODY was huddled around the Bar TV watching the video of the 1st Tower collapsing in/on itself !!!! I just stood there in shock with My eyes starting to well up and begin to water up.
I stood there and started to get mad, HOW DARE SOMEONE DO THIS TO MY/OUR COUNTRY !&$@€#%¥SONOFABITCHES !!! NOBODY DOES THIS TO AMERICA BUT THEY HAD !!! I was ready to Nuke every grain of sand in the mideast- just turn it into one giant sheet of glass.
I was not hungry anymore so I got a glass of whiskey and wedged into the Bar between two of the Waitresses. I don’t recall if I ever ate anything that day or not other than a liquid diet. We all just stared at the TV in disbelief.
