RECALL MCCAIN CAMPAIGN ENDS
Recall John McCain Committee ^ | September 17, 2001 | Marcia Regan

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE RECALL JOHN MCCAIN COMMITTEE

SEPTEMBER 17, 2001

PHOENIX - This is a time when Americans must rally behind all their leaders, set differences aside, and unite against the forces of evil that have perpetrated and supported the savage attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. These deplorable acts of war committed against the United States have caused Americans to reassess their priorities and recognize once again that those who live in freedom must also be called upon to defend freedom.

This committee's purpose was to counter legislative threats to the constitutional freedoms guaranteed to all Americans. It is now apparent that there is a more immediate external threat to the freedoms we cherish. This country is at war, and as President Bush has stated, it is a very different kind of war. It is a war against enemies who hide themselves, but we will use every resource to seek them out for retribution. This is a war against enemies who covertly plan their despicable acts for years and we must be prepared for a long and difficult fight to defeat them. This is a war against enemies who have a fanatical belief in their cause, but they will soon learn they have severely underestimated our resolve for the cause of freedom.

With this moral cause in mind, our committee has decided that although our original goal was important, it is no longer in our state and nation’s best interest to remain divided over legislative differences. We began the recall effort to defend our constitutional rights. Now, our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is under clear and immediate danger from a well-organized international network of evil. Senator McCain has spoken out strongly against those who have attacked this nation and we pray that he will stress the need for us to set aside internal disagreements and demonstrate support for the Commander-in-Chief during this time of national crisis.

We are suspending our recall petition signing activities and will donate a significant amount of our remaining funds to The Arizona Republic Disaster Relief Fund (http://disasterrelief.azcentral.com). We strongly encourage others to do whatever they can to aid the victims of the September 11th attacks.

Our committee will maintain its database of volunteers in the event that Senator McCain's behavior warrants the continuation of the recall campaign. We will continue to maintain our website to monitor Senator McCain's public statements and legislation. The offices of The Recall John McCain Committee will remain open on a limited basis until September 28th to accept mail and phone messages After that time, we will continue to answer all inquiries via our internet website.

We are very grateful to all our recall volunteers, contributors and thousands upon thousands of petition signers for their efforts in the support of our constitution. While our nation is in turmoil, we will not continue the recall. Now is the time for us to focus our energies in demonstrating a united front against those who would threaten our national sovereignty.

Marcia Regan
Chairwoman

Good move, Dittomom. As usual, you're a class act.

It's too bad that took something this horrific for McWhineyBoy to finally back his president. I still don't trust him--he still has too much of an eye on how HIS career is being affected by all of this. I really do get sick of seeing his smarmy face on TV.

The full magnanimity of your gesture only becomes clear when I consider the amount of time, effort and emotion you have invested in the cause you are setting aside. It is a piece of yourself that you are offering to your country. Yours is a deep patriotism, and I honor and thank you for it.

This is a great decision, dittomom. Now, all Americans must work together to find these evil, murdering barbarians and eradicate them and obliterate their chances to repeat these cowardly attacks upon the USA.

McCain has reported to duty so far, lined up behind our Commander in Chief. I expect that he will use this opportunity to grow into a true patriotic American now that we all understand "What Really Matters" and it isn't petty personal goals and partisan posturing...

Welcome Back to the GOP, Sen. McCain! Support our President. Noble Eagles Up!

If I'm not mistaken, McCain is now supporting legislation that will allow the FBI and other federal agencies to read our email and track our Internet habits (using "Carnivore"), without a federal search warrant. He remains a very dangerous man and, over the long term, may be more dangerous to this country than the terrorists who attacked us last week.

Congratulations on seeing the light, FINALLY. I've never suupported McCain and would like to see him removed from office, but through an election and not by a recall campaign.

BTW, how about ending the hate campaign against Congressman Condit as well. Surprising, isn't it, in view of earlier factless speculation surrounding Condit's alleged "murder", that Faux News still hasn't yet linked Condit to the WTC terrorists or a Bin Laden cell operating in California or DC.

Hope this does not mean Condit is getting off the hook also.

If Condit had any respect for this country, he would resign immediately. If he does not, he should be expelled from the Intelligence Committee and placed in charge of cleaning the Capitol toilets (but not emptying garbage cans-- the information in the trash is too sensitive for Gary Condit) until he has the sense to resign. He is a blackmail threat and cannot be trusted in times of War.

How about convincing him to leave the young interns alone?

Do you bash your head against a hard object ten times before writing crap like that? Or does it just splurt out?

Looking on the bright side, the same national crisis that has spared McCain has also boosted Bush. His popularity has soared and many of his legislative initiatives, such as drilling, have a better chance of being passed. The same may be true of the treatment his nominees receive. Biden, Kennedy, Daschle and their minions will undoubtedly have to pull in their horns a bit.

Wow, what a tough decision. Very classy of you, I think; I very much doubt that the liberals will follow suit with their petty issues (as opposed to your REAL issues).

I still worry, however. McCain is SUCH a nutcase -- he's supportive today, but what will he be tomorrow? You know that if he disagrees with something W does, he'll find a mike and a camera, and shoot off his gigantic mouth, and the adoring media will love pitting this DECORATED WAR HERO over against W.

I think you did what you needed to, but still I worry.

To: dittomom, all
Even though I STRONGLY disagree with everyone involved with this attempt to remove a courageous patriot, I am happy to pledge my unity again with FReepers of different political philosophies...If there was any silver lining in the dark cloud that came on Sept. 11 it was the greatness of Americans pulling together...BTW, Sen. McCain will be on Larry King tonight to speak more about the terror bastards who inflicted so much destruction.

McInsane, and Barbara Lee who voted AGAINST using force against the terrorists responsible for the attacks on this nation, are NOT assets to it's defense. The sooner we get traitors like this out of office the better!

My patriotism does not extend to supporting scumbags in office.
