Over the past several weeks I've noticed a higher than usual amount of hits to my firewall.
Since I spend quite a bit of time on this site, it appears that most of the hits come while logged in to FR.
My question is, has anyone else, behind a firewall experienced this?

Me too, Irish. I surf quite a bit and never get the hits like I do here. My Norton Firewall log is full. Couldn't tell you why.

Code Red is part of the new background noise of the internet, and Nimda have added a massive increase in those hits(It started early sept). That might account for this. And of course those hits are random, so you migh be reading something into the noise.
Or are these hits on things other than port 80?

No. actually my firewall hits have gone way down.
It might be innocuous. What type of connection do you have?
If you have not defined your ISP to your firewall, then when there is a problem connection, your ISP would be interpreted as a site trying to access you.
If you are using zonealarm, then identify the site that is hitting you, confirm by calling your isp, and if so, add them to the list of local computers in your network.

I've been getting dozens other than port 80 per visit.

I'm using dialup at this location. Some are from my ISP but only about one or two per session. When I get the time I'll print out my ever growing log and make the call.

I get lots of hits, but no more or less than before 9-11. I've only ever voted for conservatives, think there's a connection?

Right after Sept.11th, I was getting 20 to 25 attacks in a 3 hour period - every night for a couple of weeks. I think that virus was going around then too, but in the last week or so they have really dropped off.
