I've never gone over to DU, and I don't intend to. I respect their right to have a forum, even if they don't all seem to respect our right to have one free from disruption by them.
We have a few liberals here who mind their manners and seem to understand that they are going to be shouted down, sometimes rudely. I really don't mind their presence at all if they present alternative ideas to simply contemplate, especially if they are thoughtful positions.
But the majority are dumb punk disruptors who say foolish and inflammatory things and I think FR management tolerates them too long. I would be a little quicker on the ban button, especially when they expose themselves and their tactics as shown in this post.

A fine example of tolerance of diversity.
If these jerks weren't so mendacious, they'd be pathetic.

They are nearer than you could imagine.
I know! They were posting at Free Britannia until about an hour and a half ago!

this is the first time I've had to ban anyoneYou should probably filter out their IP addresses, so they can't just log back in with new pseudonyms.

I've kept track of the IPs; the software I use is pretty good for that sort of thing.

I hope that explains how I got to be here. Because I honestly came here to learn more about all the things I didn't know. I'm still learning.
BTW, I was still a registered Dem when I registered here on FR.

My avatar is Xena ( because she is a lesbian icon ) Did she cry? Yep. Sure, tears are as rare as scrawny biceps on Xena: Warrior Princess. But an emotional Lucy Lawless, 30, left her iron-maiden persona (and her trademark bangs) behind on her wedding day. "She really got choked up," says a friend. "It was the most moving moment of the whole ceremony." At the traditional Catholic wedding service in Santa Monica's Saint Monica Church, the 5'11" Kiwi beauty dazzled her groom, Xena executive producer Rob Tapert, 43, in a ]ow-cut, hand-beaded silk-satin ivory gown by her show's costume designer, Ngila Dickson. Lawless's 10-year-old daughter, Daisy (from her first marriage, to Garth Lawless), was maid of honor.

DU now eliminating your right of free speech Your former Dem colors are showing. As much as I despise all that DU wallows in (they do not "stand for" anything in my opinion), they do not owe anyone a right to speech. The "right of free speech" only ties the government, not private enterprise. DU can censor or remove any speech they desire form their website and they are perfectly within their rights.
Why anyone would choose to post on such a censored site is another question entirely. I recommend forgetting they exist.

DU doesn't have free speech; it says on the terms and conditions they won't tolerate any conservatives there. This is the part Freepers keep getting confused about. DU is for Dems only. It is not a forum; it is a place for Dems to share thoughts that otherwise would never get discussed (since the media won't address them). At DU, they do not CARE what conservatives think or have to say. They are NOT interested (any longer) in coming to compromises with conservatives and they are NOT going to debate any issues with them any more. All that is pointless. It never accomplishes a thing.
Truth is, though conservatives have yet to fully realize it, Democrats have crossed over a line. They are angrier than they have been since the 60s and they have no tolerance or patience with conservatives anymore.
IOW, now BOTH sides believe that the only way to deal with the other side is to completely crush them.

Ya know, DU is kind of like a traffic accident. You know you shouldn't look, but can not help it. When you do happen to take a glance, a gut wrenching feeling overwhelms you until you realize that the cure is to just keep moving. Fortunately there is a place (FR) to get back to reading and discussing issues in an intelligent manner with those who have more to do than whine and spew hatred against those who may have a differing opinion than them. Makes me a little sick, it does.
Keep up the good fight.

I saw the subject posts. The DU thread URL is above, and it is called "Are you now or have you ever been a member of Free Republic?" It is located in a section called something like "Conservatives."

Re your post #32. You're right. I sometimes forget that free speech doesn't exist EVERYWHERE. Thank you for reminding me.

As a former lifelong Dem, I always try to find examples of conduct that would make me feel proud to say I voted a straight Dem ticket almost my entire life. You'll know that you've cast off the last of Demo-thought when you find that the two outstanding presidents of the 20th century were 1. Calvin Coolege and 2. Ronald Reagan.
"Silent Cal" is my idea of the ideal president. One may question my opinion by remarking that "he didn't do anything."
Bingo!

It's one thing for them to just continue in mental masturbation - so far as I am concerned, what they do behind closed firewalls is their business. However when they plot to disrupt other sites, then it crosses a line.
Appropriate action is being taken; it is also very instructive to see what type of people the DU lot are.
