Yes, this is another firearms vanity.
The fantasy condition is this:
For whatever reason, you have to choose one firearm to keep.
This assumes that you also have a decent supply of ammunition to go with it.
For purposes of this discussion we will assume that there is no change in current laws. You are limited to one gun by financial circumstances.
I have narrowed my choices down to a handgun, one small enough to conceal. That still leaves a lot of room for consideration.

My one gun choice would be an AR-15. Light, easy to use, good to fairly long range.
In the world of handguns, I carry a Sig Sauer P229 in .357 Sig. I don't imagine I'd change that :) With a Milt Sparks Executive Companion holster, easily and comfortably concealable. 12+1 rounds of major knock-down power.

Yea 45's are good, real good re: post #93 - yep, and that pup is WAY fun to shoot :)

I keep the shotgun magazine loaded and a round half-way in the chamber. That way my wife can see that the chamber has a round near it. All she has to do is chamber and she's ready to go and she doesn't have to wonder where the safety is. I also keep a .45 in a hidden spot near the bed.
As for myself, I keep a .45 near me at all times.

Now a box-magazine M1 tanker...hmm. Breaking cover to retrieve empty clips..ug..without an army supply system behind you...I have always personally favored stripper clips. Hey, I thought we were talking concealment. If so, I have had good success with a pistol-gripped 870 Police under a trenchcoat, hand through slit in pocket. A paratrooper folding stock would be nice on that M1. All hail the 30'06.

One pump, ready to go
If the bolt is closed on my Mossberg 500, the bolt has to be unlocked or the trigger pulled to open it. If you don't want a chambered round, make sure you keep the bolt open.

You have got to be kidding!

I think that the original poster left it open without specifying pistol or rifle or what you own or what you would like. My Ruger 9 MM is a fine pistol & like I mentioned earlier my M-1 has a Metal butt that folds underneath the stock of the gun making it easy to conceal in need be. I have never seen another one like it before. But like the title says what one gun would you want if could only pick 1 and that throws out my Remington 700 30.06 because it's only good for big game. I also have 2 .22 Mag Rifles & some others but I won't get into all that. Anyway all my guns are fine weapons & tommorrow hunting season opens in Ga. & I hope to use my Remington to bag me a Big Buck.
To: HELLRAISER II
I really hope and expect that you'll get that buck. For one gun to grab...I guess I'd choose whatever service-sized 9mm or .357 I had, or a .44/.454. As I said, shotguns are formidable, versatile, especially now that there are great slugs, and interchangeable barrels. Oh what has this man wrought, when he started us up. A CAR-15 is probably the smartest thing, however. Always wanted one. Garden-variety ammo these days, too. Good hunting!

Hey, we knew it was a joke. We were having fun along with you. Good topic.

Blazer R93 .308
Alright, so it isn't widely practical. But you must admit it is accurate and looks good.

Country Boy Special..... Remington 870 Special Purpose 12 gauge Magnum... 3 1/2" chamber. Also can be used as a boat paddle, club, etc. for it is indestructible.

This brings up a question that I have been wanting to ask for some time.
What cliber bolt action hunting rifle would you choose for your "sniper" rifle. Brand too if you have a preference.
I'm wondering about the newer Remington .300 Ultra-Mag would this be a good choice for a long range flat trajectory rifle???
To: LibKill
M-4 carbine with quick detach mount for aimpoint comp M, pvs-14 night vision monocular, and a good 10x scope with target turrets on a quick detach mount. Flexible rifle for engagements from 0-500 meters. Compact, lots of parts, mags, and ammo available. We just got issued ours in my National Guard unit and I love them.

I'm with you on the Sig...

How do you like that Mossberg 500? I've never had the inclination to purchase a weapon, but of the ones I've looked at, that Mossberg looks like the one I would grab. With the pistol grip, and black finish it just looks scary, but easy to handle.
But yeah, the first gun I'd pick up is a shotgun... point and click simplicty.

I bought my Mossberg 500 a long time ago. What I don't like about it is that I don't have the versatilaty of changing out the mag size like a Remington 870. What I don't like about it is that it feeds anything and it has a tang safety so I don't have to reposition my trigger finger. I heard a lot about the Mossberg 590's but I haven't shot one yet. My son has a Bennelli and we had some bad ammo that the Mossberg would shoot and the Bennelli wouldn't. I realzed that a pump can be short stroked but I like it. I really don't care for shotguns for home defense except for what I use it for. When I think that someone is in the garage at night, I already have an idea that it's going to be a short range, few bad guys and a fast fight. I can't wait for the bad guy to die so the 12 gauge is ideal.
The .45 is good only to make sure that the bad guys don't interrupt us while we call 911.

"AR-15s suck."
Can you list your reasons? I love mine.
To: LibKill
Mine would be a mini-gun.
But then I'd need to win the lottery to afford the ammunition.

One more vote for the 12 gauge pump.
