This is different than what you are referring to since I am referring to a currency endorsed by the Russian Govt and the News Media. The USA does not have Gold currency although Gold bullion coins are sold.

That's why I would have liked to get a knowledgeable Russian to respond to this subject to clarify if yes indeed that it is a curency and any other detail

That is right for you and me, but there is a little secret kept by the IMF. All IMF intergovernmental fund transfers are done with SDR's. An SDR is defined as one thirtyfifth of one ounce of gold. In other words, exactly what the US dollar was defined as before 1972. So when anyone tells you that gold is no longer money, you can know that Central Bankers know otherwise. It is not only money, it is THE money.
