Nate Newton Arrested for Marijuana

ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (AP) — Former Dallas Cowboys star Nate Newton was arrested when police confiscated 213 pounds of marijuana from a van on a highway.

Newton and two others were charged Sunday with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Trooper Willie Williams said Tuesday. A fourth person, arrested in a separate vehicle with $18,000, was charged with conspiracy to possess narcotics.

All four were in the St. Martin Parish Jail on Tuesday with bail set at $200,000 each.

Newton is a six-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman who helped Dallas win three Super Bowls. He spent 14 seasons in the NFL, 13 with Dallas. He retired last year after a season with Carolina.

Williams said a state police patrol pulled over a van for a traffic violation on Sunday about 6 a.m. east of Lafayette.

``The driver seemed nervous and gave consent to search the van,'' Williams said. He did not say who was driving.

Cardboard boxes filled with 213 pounds of marijuana were in the van, Williams said.

Newton, who lives in East Ellijay, Ga., was arrested along with Faye Cleveland, 46, and Marva Johnson Waye, 49, both of Jacksonville, Fla. All three were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

The driver of a pickup truck, Ricky Glenn Williams, 46, of Quinlan, Texas, was charged with conspiracy to possess narcotics, police said. The $18,000 that was in the truck with him was seized, the trooper said.

Appears that many members of 'America's Team' share in America's problems.

Temptations are great for the poor, and even greater for those who are, or once were, rich. Guess that is why it is so tough for a 'rich man' to inherit the blessings of eternal life--selfish, not selfless.

A whole van full of wacky weed! Bet that only 210 pounds makes it back to the precinct.

A God-fearing, humble man would have no problem living on the retirement check he is no doubt getting. Greed did him in and he won't be the last.

Nate's a big fella. He shares this with another offensive lineman (say Terry Allen) and it might get them through the evening...;-)

The refs, the press, and the cops have always had it in for the Cowboys.

"Did I say two-hundred and thirty pounds, Chief? You misheard, it was two-hundred and thirteen.."

Gave consent to search the van. Isn't it nice, that they have to ask, before they search. We all know that they can search anytime they please, for any reason. All they have to do is announce their suspicions, and at the very least, impound the vehicle, then search it. I know that I will be called a friend of drugs, or worse, the -L- word, but our freedoms were too hard fought for, to be so blatantly disregarded as they are.

Former Dallas Cowboy, Sherman Williams, is already in jail for selling Marijuana. He was convicted this past year. Maybe they can be cell mates?

213 pounds and ol' Nate still had it out-weighed by 150 or so pounds! I guess since Michael Irvin had his drug charges dropped yesterday, Nate was just doing his part to assure that at least one former Cowboy is always facing serious prison time.
