I liked the thumbs up Powell gave Bush. What bothered me was the lack of applause during his speech, by those at the UN is this how they do things at those meetings?

Since the pace of the translations differ, any response would be out of time with the words being spoken by the speaker.

I don't think they usually clap much during a UN speech until the end. He has to deliver it more slowly so the translators can get it right. So, I think it is because of this, that not much clapping occurs during the speech itself.
