FBI: Explosion Aboard Airbus

CNN quotes the White House, to wit: The FBI believes there was an explosion aboard the American Airlines A-300 which crashed this morning in Queens, NY. They are investigating in an attempt to learn the source of the explosion.

Switiching from FOX, MSNBC and CNN. Many eye witnesses reporting heard loud noise, pieces coming off of plane while plane spiraled down. One lady was very specific that she saw fire on a wing, and saw the wing fall off.

Some FAA guy saying an explosion can result from some mechanical problems. Also, Neal Cavuto again bringing up issue of baggage search, which no one seems to want.

Networks have been studiously avoiding the b-word (bomb), but it seems the most likely scenario at this point I just read an article several days ago here that showed how easy it would be to plant a bomb on an airliner.

Any plane that falls in pieces has experienced SOME sort of explosion.

Pretty bad security if they discount the possibility of a conventional bombing while they're worrying about the renewed interest in hijackings.

A bomb placed at the junction of the wing and fuselage would cause the wing and engine to fall seperate from the rest of the plane.

One way to look at it is how much bigger the market flying boeing is over airbus. and airbus has a statistically unlikely number of crashes...that is to say, with (practically) all flights on boeing planes, airbus crashes waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much.

AND since someone is bound to get all uppity even with all the airline mechanics I personally know... here ya go Airbus, the leader in air disaster!!!
