I don't think this was another "Isolated incident"

Me neither. BTW, the Spanish newspaper "el Pais" is reporting that the airbus was coming from Boston in its way to Santo Domingo. What a coincidence...not!

"Stomp taliban, stomp bin pigshat, stomp saddam, make 'em all die TODAY."

You mean sort of a great big "Veteran's Day Gift"?.....as in "kilotonage" as compared to "thousands of poundage"

Hey, everyone contributes to the war effort in their own way! If you're a guy, go to your nearest professional or college sporting event. If you were thinking of trading in your car and getting a new one, now's the time to do it. If you were thinking of buying a house or refinancing, now's the time to do it. I'm doing my Christmas shopping early, just like I try to do every year. Now is not the time to be wetting our pants and cowering in our homes. It's self defeating.

I agree that coincidences of this kind are "rare." It's New York, it's a departing flight, it's a plane with a very good record of safety and reliability.

But I don't see how, with the wreckage still burning, you can make a CONCLUSION yet (FWIW, I haven't heard "White House confirm" anything. Everything is speculation right now, just speculation).

EVEN IF it turns out to be terrorism, what does that change? We're bombing h*ll out of Taliban/al-Qaeda right now. I hope we go on to our other enemies in the Middle East. But this is war.

Perhaps we're too used to being able to sit back comfortably and have Peter Jennings explain it all for us.

"point 2 : Light travels just slightly faster than sound."

Well, not quite, although you may be saying this tongue in cheek.

At, say, 45 degrees F, the speed of sound would be about 752 mph. The speed of light, at 186,000 miles per second, translates to 669,600,000 mph. Slight difference, I'd say. :)

20+ years working in the aviation industry.

I've learned not to fly Airbus. I've worked on them, don't want anything to do with them. If it ain't Boeing...

[From Newsmax] The FAA belives that there was a midair explosion on the wing, and one of the engines fell off the plane. Reports indicate that there may have been an on-board explosion as well, but they are unconfirmed. There is no indication that this is anything other than a terrible accident.

Ok, insert cork-screw, pull head out of butt!

I had a similar list of reasons why this is a terrorist act. Add to this, the plane was an Airbus. Airbus planes are of much newer construction because the company itself is relative new comer, at least in terms of mass production. So we are probably talking about a plane that is not that old and hence less likely to have the kind of mechanical problems that older planes do.
