Search continues in mysterious case of missing biologist

By Thomas Jordan

One of the world's leading structural biologists, whose abandoned rental car was discovered on the Hernando DeSoto Bridge last week, remained missing Monday. Dr. Don C. Wiley, 57, a Harvard University biochemistry and biophysics professor, was in Memphis attending the annual meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The board met Wednesday and Thursday at the hospital.

Wiley's rented white Mitsubishi Galant was discovered abandoned on the bridge at 4 a.m. Friday.

Police said the key was in the car's ignition switch and the vehicle's hazard lights hadn't been turned on. The car also had a full tank of gas.

Memphis Police Inspector Matt McCann said Monday Wiley's disappearance was baffling.

"We just don't know where he is right at the moment," McCann said. "There is no indication of foul play that we can determine at this point."

McCann said Wiley is "known throughout the world in his field. For him to suddenly disappear like this is of great concern to us. We're putting in a lot of man-hours trying to locate him."

Dr. William Evans, deputy director of St. Jude, said Wiley has been a member of the advisory board for about 10 years. The board, composed of 15 physicians and scientists, evaluates the hospital's programs through discussions with faculty members.

Evans said he talked with Wiley Thursday night after a dinner at The Peabody. He said Wiley was in a good mood.

"Don was always the life of the party in terms of any kind of conversation . . . and he was doing just that," Evans said.

Wiley is an accomplished scientist, Evans said.

"He has won some major scientific prizes. . . . He's been considered for the Nobel Prize. He's one of the world's premier scientists in his field."

Wiley is the John L. Loeb Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Harvard's Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology.

According to a biography of Wiley released by Harvard, he is "one of the most influential biologists of his generation." His work focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms through which viruses infect cells and the resulting immune responses they elicit.

He recently had been investigating dangerous viruses including AIDS, Ebola, Herpes Simplex and influenza.

In 1999, Wiley and another Harvard professor, Dr. Jack Strominger, won the Japan Prize for their discoveries of how the immune system protects humans from infections.

Wiley and Strominger won the Albert Lasker Medical Research Awards in 1995 for their work on the immune system, which has shown how the body fights infection and rejects organ transplants.

Maybe he knows who the antrax culprit is and was going to expose him/her.

Now that's logical. FBI should be heading tward Harvard, just in case. Why not?

Although he didnt testify, we had to hear on and on from Johnie Cockroach about how they had a "Nobel Peace Prize" winner (cockroach was too stupid to recall that Mullis was a Chemistry Nobel Laureate) to testify on how "disputable" the evidence was. I followed that case very, very closely (Im a trained Ph.D. Molecular Biologist, who lived in L.A at the time) and OJ was a guilty as you can get.

If the Anthrax was distributed from a domestic terrorist, I still believe that it had to be culivated abroad. I frankly dont buy that some grad student could have produced the spores at night in his spare time, at an Academic Lab or Research Institure. There would have been some leakage and subsequent infections, that public health officials would have caught on to.

Our goverment is taking $$$ out of the AIDs prevention account and moving it to bioterrorism.Even the democraps are in favor of it.
Would this guy have any knowledge that may help our goverment to prevent or find antitotes for bioterrorism?

I know, it is hard to buck the trend. You should read Duesberg's book, for example. His thesis, and I don't claim it to be revealed truth, is that the immune deficiency results from a "lifestyle" (I was convinced long ago that that is a terrible concept - but convenient) continual exposure to: narcotics, amyl and butyl nitrates, the standard venereal diseases, short term self medication with antibiotics, against expected exposure to venereal diseases, which only have the effect of establishing resistant strains in the patient. They call it "life in the fast lane". I didn't think myself a naive person concerning what went on in the homosexual community until I read this book. Then I realized that I had been clueless. It would have been more comfortable to remain that way.

Arthur Ashe and Kimberly Bergalis probably died of AZT poisoning according to Duesberg; haemophiliacs die of haemophalia and their death is attributed to AIDS. We are subjected to a constant barrage of propaganda from the media, it makes it impossible for us to believe the official story isn't true. But, if there are specialists in the field who don't believe it, we have to consider the possibility that it isn't as certain as the official version presents it.

What is going on in Africa is another story altogether.

A guy like Wiley is doing basic research on what proteins look like- that type of science is really far removed from reasearch to develop drugs. His job is to understand what the 3D structure of the protein is. That is just the first step in the 10-20 year long process to develop a drug which attacks the disease protein. If he was going to be whistle blowing on anything, it would probably be invloving some kind of political/money scandal at the hospital he was just coming from. I would be investigating hospital corruption way before I start thinking about bioterrorism of pharmaceutical companies.

Just to set the record straight, AIDS is caused by HIV.

Have you read the Kelly - Wearne book, and if so, do you have a comment on it?

Kelly and Wearne aren't very "technical", could you suggest a book that gives an explanation of the DNA comparison procedures used in forensic (so-called) science?

I use "so called" because the primary objective of forensic scince is not "objective knowledge" but nailing the perp.

"Just to set the record straight, AIDS is caused by HIV."

Finally, all my doubts are cleared up. Now I have the truth from an omniscient source. Tell me, God, does anyone but me know that you are a Freeper?

And who, by the way, is your internet server?

No I havent read it, and Im afraid I cant really offer any non-technical books on the subject. The fact that you can get a so-called "expert" to say (with a straight face) that the PCR data is not-conclusive (because there is an extremely LOW probability of error, like a 1 in a million) so they can get their tesitmony fees is simply a disgrace to our legal system.

If terrorists may not have wanted him, let's look the other way for one minute.....Anything our own goverment may want him for?

Well, there are certainly those in this country profiting by their monopoly hold on the supposed Aanthrax vaccine, though it's likely not effective and its victims have to be forced to submit to it. They're certainly contemptuous enough of human life to commit such an act, though I'm not aware of BioPort involvement in seeking or promoting of any AIDS vaccine or cure- but such developments certainly wouldn't surprise me.

I didn't ask for a non-technical book.

LOL. I just needed to set the record straight. Its a joke, farce, tragedy, whatever, that some people take a big fat dump on millions of man-hours of conclusive research (conducted by thousands of people worldwide), which is dillegently collected and quite clear that AIDS is caused by HIV to propose preposterous counter-theories. What's next cold-fusion? Oh wait they already tried that.

protein

I recienty posted an article under society and culture that reported that a protein in spinich has been found to reverse age related blindness.( can't find the article in FR archives) If a protein can reverse eye aging, I wonder what else a protein from something else can do.....Hmmm.......Blueberries have been found to reverse aging in the nerve connections, and actually reversed the aging in rats.

Blue berry study

Now you got me started! I'll be up all night studying it!

So, as Mullis asked, where is, or where are the articles detailing the evidence? Are Koch's postulates to be considered outmoded as some defenders of the official have claimed?

Foucault, by the way, is alleged to have died of AIDS. Most likely he died of AZT poisioning.
