November 24, 2001 -- Is Harry Potter the spawn of Satan?
That's the opinion at one Christian school in southern Australia, where parents voted yesterday to forbid students from reading about the bespectacled wizard and his preteen cohorts.
The vote was just part of a widespread anti-Harry backlash by religious conservatives angered by the best-selling books' blatant celebration of witchcraft and the occult.

Years and years and years ago, I got real wasted and turned on the TV and that movie was on.
I almost freaked and had a severe flashback. That was the most bizarre thing I hade ever seen. I thought that I was watching some normal Mickey Rooney flick ("Let's put on a showwwww!), but this made no sense at all. I thought it was just me, that the drugs had totally taken over, until a commercial break and the movie was re-introduced as "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
That made me feel a lot better. This rant has nothing to do with the debate at hand, but your mention of the movie stirred some old, very weird, memories. : 0)

I am also a Christian. Which of us speaks for God when you and I disagree on what His Word says?
Okay. But what does that have to do with fiction? We are talking metaphor, not satanism. The HP books aren't real. The magic is metaphorical, just as it is in Lewis's Narnia series.
If this distinction causes you difficultly, then should not read HP or Tolkien or Narnia or Oz. However, neither should you condemn other Christians, including fundamentalists, who disagree.
As do we all, yourself included. However, it is also important that you do not adopt a self righteous attitude that drives others away from Christianity. This is just my humble opinion, but I think you may not realize that you may be pushing others away from Jesus and that is just as sinful.
There are more important questions related to salvation than whether or not someone sees the HP movie.
Absolutley. So, please stop judging me because we have an honest disagreement.
IMHO, you would be better served to acknowledge the important points of salvation that we agree upon. Reading or not reading HP is not one of those.

My son helped present this play a number of times at a conservative, fundamentalist Christian school. Not all of us are as wacky as some of those on this thread who must not be named (pun intended). *g*

We did it at a conservative Christian holiness school. We did however, have to ask permission to use "ass."

Ahhhh! You dared ask the unaswerable question. I'm continually amazed that I can be damned to Hell forever based on someone's interpretation of Scripture.
It is also the height of arrogance and immorality, to judge those, whom you do not know, assume that they are infidels, who need YOUR pontifications, and to claim that they aren't saved. All you are doing is making yourself feel better / superior.

You have repeatedly said that others , here, haven't read the Bible to their children ( without knowing them, nor what they REALLY have or have not done ! ) , you have claimed that I practice " witchraft ", called me a witch, said that those who disagree with you aren't good Christians, claimed that I prayed TO the dead, that some were NOT saved, teisted what some have posted, added words / put words into other's mouths, and NOW, you claim that I ave lied about YOU, and claimed something as true, which you never said ( but which you certainly DID imply ! ) , and I am the " bad " one here ? You have got to be kidding! Reread ALL of your posts ! Reread everyone else's post, and see just how many people find your abusive, emotional, BIASED , arrogant, foolish, arrogant replies offensive . Instead of invectives, calumny, and fanatical religious zeal, try using explicit , factual, examples from the HP books / movie, to prove your case. The cherrypicked scriptures, and Torquimata type of hectoring just befouls threads, and prove nothing.

My parents, like you, never knew Christ..like you they denied Him the position of Lord..they had a religion..but no relationship with Christ..

Alot of people will not go to heaven....a hard truth....alot of people you and I love will not go to heaven.....a harder truth......I am not angry or bitter..I am ever so thankful that God loved me to life..I am grateful that most (but not all) my children have a saving relationship with Christ..
Salvation is fully of God.
He will have Mercy on whom He will have Mercy..I do not second guess him..
If ANYONE is a raging delusional, it is YOU, and YOU alone! If ANYONE needs GOD's grace, it is YOU ! If ANYONE is doing the devil's work, it is YOU, and YOU alone !
