VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia (A) One Russian soldier was killed and three others, including a regional military commandant, were wounded Thursday in a suicide bomb attack in the breakaway Chechnya region, the Interfax news agency reported.
The attack in the center of Urus-Martan involved a woman clad in black who approached the commandant, Geidar Gadzhiyev, the report said, citing Chechen Security Council secretary Rudnik Dudayev.
The woman also died in the explosion, which seriously injured Gadzhiyev and did substantial damage to a military administrative building, the report said.
Before the Urus-Martan bombing, an official in the Kremlin-backed Chechen administration said eight Russian servicemen were killed over the previous 24 hours.
During that period, Russian positions came under fire 15 times and Russian warplanes and artillery pounded four districts of the republic, the official said.
Russian forces withdrew from Chechnya after a 1994-96 war ended in stalemate, but they returned in September 1999 after incursions by Chechnya-based rebels into neighboring Dagestan and after apartment bombings blamed on separatists killed some 300 people in Russia.
Russian officials have frequently claimed that the rebel forces are fractured and close to defeat, but the rebels have inflicted a heavy toll on Russian forces for more than a year with small hit-and-run attacks and ambushes.
My thought also. The use of women is something new, though. Arabs would not have done it.

Guess this event makes her a Dead-Martyr-Whore-for-Allah?
I wouldn't put anything past those barbarians. Come to think of it, a burka can hide the sex of its wearer as well as a bomb strapped to the body. If anything good comes out of this recent suicidal act (prayers for the wounded Russian soldiers) it will be that the Marines, allies and anti-Taliban/OBL forces will be on the look out for this sort of stuff.
Actually, it doesn't matter to me. Chechnya and Russia are an entirely domestic issue and doesn't concern Americans.
I bet everyone here would be mad if the Spaniards or the Russians interfered during the War of Independence.
Reread your history.... Our War of Independence involved a number of various players jockeying for position (as all wars do!).
More likely she will get one 72 year old "hasn't had enough" guy...
Yes, I know. Thats why I did not say, Germans, which were used as mercenary soldiers to augment the Redcoats, and the French, which the Colonials were actively trying to get into the war against the British. Benjamin Franklin was sent to France to ask the king for assistance.
I say that we should be like the Swiss.
Dig deeper, Spain and Russia DID "meddle" in our revolution. Fortunately for us, the "meddled" on our behalf since they had their own little bones to pick with England.
