Survey finds 10 partners before marriage 'normal'

The majority of young people think it is normal for a person to have at least 10 sexual partners before marriage.

A survey has also found that three in 10 believe it is acceptable for a girl to lose her virginity before the age of 15.

Research carried out by Brook, the youth sex advisory service, says there is a "cultural change" in young people's attitudes towards sex.

Some 64% of men and 54% of women agreed that it was acceptable for a person to sleep with more than 10 partners before getting married.

But the survey, which questioned people aged 17 to 25, also showed that they wanted more information about sex and contraception.

Men admitted to getting most of their knowledge about contraception from TV and magazines, while women learned the most from magazines and their mothers.

Half of all the young women surveyed said they wished that teachers had supplied them with more information about preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Brook chief executive Jan Barlow said: "Young people have an increasing number of sexual partners and they are saying that's OK.

"But at the same time they don't have the information and access to services that they need.

"Young people must seek out advice and information in order to make their choices and to understand how to protect themselves both against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases."

Ok, there is a lot of nasty, incurable stuff out there to catch, and ten partners is extremely risky. I wonder how many of these "cosmopolitan" types have crotches that look like the moon?

So people throw out condoms as a solution. LOL. I was married a while before I tried that trick, and I don't know how anyone can stand it.

I simply can't comprehend a lifestyle like these people claim.

"Since this was a survey of young people, that 3 in 10 figure probably consists mainly of 13 to 17 year old guys "

"But the survey, which questioned people aged 17 to 25,.."

Why should you care, pcl? You advocate free sex for any age...the sooner the better, right? Your motto is "don't neglect teenagers the joys of hedonistic promiscuity...you'd be denying their natural desires". Very dangerous belief.

Purity involves *self control*, *respect*, and *personal responsibility*. While guiding our daughter to remain pure before marriage we don't advocate tossing some birth control pills in her lap for 'just in case'. That would be a contradiction. We believe in abstinence. We encourage it. We know it works.

But the survey, which questioned people aged 17 to 25

So, a bunch of teenagers and recent college grads think that they should have 10 partners before marriage and that 15 year old girls are old enough to be sexually active? Sounds like a bit of wishful thinking to me.

**There's this concept called self-control you should try practicing. **

10 still seems high even by today's standards. Number of partners before marriage for moi=0. Number of partners after 20 years of marriage=-1. :D

If America does not return to Christ soon, it will deserve to be dominated by the Muslims.

Thank you Mullah Omar.

How are things with the Talibornagain?

While these parents are rasing their kids to be pure, do they also teach contraception and protection from STDs

Of course! If you don't have sex you don't get pregnant or get sexual diseases. DUH! In fact, purity is the ONLY method that works 100% against both of these events.

God Save America (Please)

"10 still seems high even by today's standards."

I have been watching teens at work. I have a job working around teens. Ten is a conservative number.

While results in the US might be much the same, this survey does come from a British source.

Thanks for pointing that out. I thought it was an American survey. I wonder how the U.S. compares.

Amen to that, Office Manager.

You are not the only one out there to be saving yourself for marriage. Take it from this 33-year old. (Actually, I'm glad I read your post...I was beggining to think *I* was the only one out there!).

It is difficult to meet the "right guy" these days though. I don't know where the nice, responsible guys are these days, but unfortunately, I haven't been meeting them! lol!

Soundd like they are getting quite a sexual education and will pass down there lowered ethics to their children as a result.
