A 72-year-old woman is one of three members of a Green Cove Springs family now in jail, accused of selling marijuana.
|
Police said that undercover officers bought marijuana at the home on four separate occasions prior to issuing a search warrant. When officers entered the home, the elder Layfield was found sitting in a living room with several bags of marijuana.
"It's unusual to find someone her age selling pot, but she's not the first and probably won't be the last," said Lt. Larry Thompson, who heads up the Clay County Drug Task Force, which co-ordinates the efforts of the sheriff's office, the Green Cove Springs and Orange Park police departments.
All three suspects were charged with possession, sale and delivery of marijuana over 20 grams, a felony with penalties of up to five years in jail upon conviction.
Elnora Layfield has two prior drug-related charges.
"Maybe a little jail time will send a stronger message to her -- because probation isn't working," Thompson said.
"Personally, I have never been stoned, or drunk enough to drop a load on the sidewalk. - tex79

I guess since he waited a few weeks before he started in on me he figures that I won't think he is still stalking me. - Tex79
Good grief, Tex! It has been weeks since you made such an inane & goofy remark !
You must be growing up, son! Good work. -- But please, -- don't lose ALL your boyish buffoonery. I'd have to find a new stalking horsey.
That's how it starts. If they keep talking long enough without getting bitch-slapped like Dane just did, they inevitably start advocating having the gubmint shoot all the dopers.

Well we could always send those people living in that state to your backyard and the state of incarceration will disappear.
We could take the drug offenders and teach them to be alcoholics instead.
That way, they wouldn't be criminals.
That would be appreciated, Dakmar.
Thanks.
When you were sober,
was your thinking off to such a degree
that you felt that you were a danger
to those around you?
Agreed, FITZ.
From everything I've read,
marijuana is completely safe.
You can overdose on aspirin.
You can't overdose on Marijuana.
Did he whine and snivel afterwards?
I have no strong feelings either way about pot. If ya want to get stupid then do it. Just dont blow that medical pot nonsense at me.
It helped.
The pain didn't go away,
but it was less severe.
No. That's why I said I could still function. It was just a certain feeling in my mind. The only way I would be a danger is if their lives depanded on my ability to solve for Y.

You might surprise yourself, then.
No less an authority than Carl Sagan
said that he performed his best, most creative work
while smoking marijuana.
I haven't seen it and can't find it. Does Blockbuster rent it out? Family Video doesn't.
I saw a critique of it a couple years ago that stated it was the best propaganda film ever produced to get people to smoke pot. From what I read, they showed only good looking, young, athletic whites acting goofy and enjoying themselves. I don't remember if sex was portrayed; But since the time of its production was more puritanical, they probably just intimated something about girls "ruining" themselves.
In the mid 90's, "USA Today" published a list every Wednesday detailing all the houses, cars, boats and cash seized under "administrative forfeiture" by the federal government. (It was sort of a legal notice giving "interested parties" the right to appeal) The average for the 3 weeks I checked was $16 million. $842 million may not sound like much federal budget-wise but remember Everett Dirksen's saying "A billion dollars here, a billion dollars there and pretty soon you're talking about real money." Of course state and local law enforcement had their own scams going, too.
Couple the government's effort to get people to smoke pot and the "administrative forfeiture laws" (where you don't need a conviction or even trial or even charges being made) and you have a great conspiracy theory; except for the time span between them.
