This was before Prop 13 and there was too much money being spent in the schools not enough. I won't go through the problems with leaky roofs, no heating/air conditioning and other problems.
The elementary school my sons went to was considered to be one of the best in the eyes of the pc priniciple, superintendent and local fish wrap.
In the first week my oldest son was totally frustrated, he had been in the advance classes in Sacramento. His math book in this sixth grade was his 4th grade book in Sac.. The English book failed English.
What he was really upset with was his science book. It was so outdated, only the Russian sputnik was mentioned. According to this outdated book, we had no space program, no trips to the moon and on and on. Besides being out of date, it was so pro USSR, it should have had the hammer and sickle on it.
I took my son's science book to the Kiwanis club that I had joined. I got up and read some of the outdated bs in it. The superintendent of schools about had a stroke. He started accusing me of butting in. I told him that if those books were not replaced with new up to date books, I would buy them and present them with a tv news crew. I gave him one week. Most of the rest of the Kiwanis guys were outraged and offered to buy new books for my son's school and other schools.
Magically, the superintendent found money for all the 6th graders in town to buy new science and math books. I had told him the math books were next on my hit parade. In less than two weeks the kids had new science and math books! In two weeks I had become the enemy of the educational bureaucrats in the city! New English books found their way to the classes over the Thanksgiving break.
Surely the teachers' unions would want the truth and only the truth taught.
The teachers' unions should be the petitions' greatest supporters.Has anyone notified them?Snicker.
I'm not familiar with many but what about organizations like Kiwanis,Lions,Rotary, etc.?Would they be interested in spreading the word?
Maybe Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary members on Free Republic could help you re your question. The American Legion should be contacted.
