Anyone with a brain knows that Bush thumbed his nose at OPEC by shifting millions of barrels of oil purchases to the Russians, causing oil prices to plummet

nope, gwb didn't shift anything, neither he nor the government buys crude oil (with the rare exception of additions to the strategic petroleum reserve), our crude is all bought by private companies (either directly by refiners or by brokers to be resold to refiners)

and, in any case, merely shifting purchases from one seller to another has no effect on the price because oil is fungible and its price is set on a world-wide market

only a reduction in total world demand or an increase in total world supply, or some combination of the two can bring about a price decline

all of that notwithstanding, i totally agree with you that bill (de)press(ed)is really, really, really dumb

Liberals believe that they are good and everyone else is evil. To the liberal, there are no honest disagreements. If you disagree with a liberal, you must be bought off. I heard this same charge, that Bush supported ANWAR, because he was paid by the oil companies, from my liberal/greenie sister-in-law. I said I supported drilling in ANWAR too, was I bought off? No answer.

The point of the thread is that the statement is so outrageous. I want Press to be challenged for saying it and I want someone to get in his face on television. It is like the unbelievable statement from a nitwit RAT supporter who claimed in print that our Marines in Beirut were killed with bombs sent by Reagan to Iran through Ollie North. When people say things that outrageous, they needed to be called on it and mocked. Press needs to be mocked. If he is mocked enough, his opinion will have less value.
