He had a loaded gun pointed in some ones direction? It's crap like this (stupidity) that gives gun owners a bad rep. The first friggin' thing you learn is to never point a gun at anyone, loaded or not, in a non-defense situation.

"Son, is gum in your mouth?!"

Some cops should not be allowed near weapons. I've heard stories about some these bozos that would curl your toenails.

Wait...this sounds like the pilot episode for "Boston Public." Sure somebody wasn't watching a repeat?
FBI stats show that cops are like ELEVEN times more likely to shoot the wrong person in a confrontation than a lawfully armed citizen....and just as likely to suffer a negligent discharge of their firearms (as in this case) due to poor training and even less practice.

Cops are notoriously bad about this. At my local gun range, I was going over my shooting when the owner asked if he could see my gun.
Needless to say I dropped the magazine out and cleared the barrel before handing it to him. His response? "You're not in law enforcement, are you?"
I said, "No, why?"
And he told me how a cop recently wouldn't clear, even when he insisted. Finally, the cop relented a bullet flew out.
Freaking amazing.
(Besides, I know I'm a much better shot than they are...)
