You can chose to LEAVE your SS# off your DL in Tennessee. I chose that route as I didn't want every teeny bopper or possible felon clerk where I worte a check to have access to my SS#.

Governor Don Sundquist and others supporting the licensing law said it would ensure that workers who would otherwise drive regardless of their legal status would learn road laws, obtain insurance, and drive more responsibly if they had driver's licenses.

After making the above statement, the governor was led away by his two white coated attendants.

The point I was making is the U.S. citizens are required to divulge their SSN to get a Tennessee driver's license. Illegal aliens are not. So we aren't even equal to illegal aliens.

As far as having some grocery clerk swipe your SSN, I'd trust the average checker at Winn-Dixie or Kroeger a lot further than I would your average bureaucrat in a driver's license bureau.
