The Queen Mother is now so ill she is unable to eat.

The Queen Mum has allegedly said that she is determined to live through the Golden Jubilee. She embodies a fighting spirit of a more heroic age, which is why we love her. I don't believe that fighting spirit will fail her now.

I hope you are right, but this must be the worst heartbreak any mother can ever go through.

My own grandmother, in her 90's failed terribly when her youngest son died of a heart attack....
She went to the wake and funeral (extremely frail and feeble), it was so sad to see how she grieved for him...and she never recovered - we lost her a few months later.

Prayers for the royal family during this sad time, most families can understand the pain.

Why then, do you tune into this station? Maybe you do see what others see-a symbol of decency, integrity & a model for a nation? Yes, I came to see that through years of college poly sci course, history texts & yes, a recent, thourough PBS documentary on the Royals.

I think "Class" is the right word.

Of all the Royals, she and Duke of Edinburgh are the only two I like. I like him because he is a plain speaker. The Queen Mother is also a plain speaker who embodies a fairly rare combination. She is both sweet natured and blunt. That is something I have obvserved in other Scottish Women.

BTW when she was young, she was a real knock-out too.

I am hopeful that young Wills is paying attention to the example of his great-grandfather, King George VI, in my view, the greatest monarch of the modern era; largely thanks to the Queen Mum being around still. He was dignified, restrained, dutiful and definitely NOT flamboyant. We don't need it from our monarch. What we need is quiet, solid leadership (sort of). We got it from George VI largely because he didn't want the job. Wills apparently doesn't want the job, which paradoxically makes him ideal. ;)

I would certainly have no problem seeing Charles passed over as King and watching his son take the throne. Thus far, he seems to have a lot more sense than his father.

I say Thank God for Wallis Simpson, for causing the abdication. I cannot imagine how Britain would have made it so well through the war without King George VI, the dear Queen, and the two princesses.

One could say the abdication was inevitable, with or without Wallis Simpson - Edward VIII was sympathetic to the Nazis and that was considered totally unacceptable by the Establishment - in that instance, they truly saved us.

Wallis did make the excuse for giving Edward the boot a lot easier to find however.

This is the way my 95 year old aunt died recently. She just stopped eating. I don't know if she couldn't eat or wouldn't eat, but she was ready to quit this world even tho there wasn't anything wrong except she was old & tired. My grandparents (her parents) died the same way. God Bless the Queen Mum.

If there were anyway on this earth, the Queen Mum could go to her daughter's funeral, you can bet the farm she would be there.

If she doesn't, then the situation is very grave for her, because I don't honestly believe anyone around her has the power to keep her away.

We should all rejoice that she has lived to be 101, a milestone in itself. She has led a long, and prosperous life.

(2) Empathy is something many, many on this thread can learn, or try to acquire.
