Ah yes, airport security... keeping America safe from rabid fundamentalist manicurists.

And other 'security' measures...just the Federal government's way of taking the fight out of its citizens. We mustn't have citizens struggling against terrorists to prevent a greater disaster when they should sit like docile hens in their seats waiting for an approved badged wonder to pop up and save them. (Of course, it was that cooperate and wait for rescue mentality which made 9/11 possible, but we're not supposed to figure that out.)

Knowing the gov, it will hire Islamic militant immigrants under affirmative action to be air marshalls, in addition to the illegal immigrant A&P guys and the high school dropouts on gate security.

Checkpoint Charlie: I was there in 1980. "You are leaving the American Sector" in four languages as I recall. Cool museum there as well. Great graffiti all over the wall on our side. We took a bus across to shop, you had to change Dmarks for OstMarks at one to one, a real ripoff. We bought cheap Bulgarian wine, and gave the rest of the Ost Marks to the east German kids before we came back out.

They wouldn't get it, they'd just read it as an insult to our fine "boys in black".

They'd need to get shot in the face with an FBI agent's M-4 assault rifle at a mistaken traffic stop to get it.

Now they're all unfire-able federal employees with an iron rice bowl union contract, so you know how THEY'RE all going to vote for the next 30 years.

The fact that our govt 6 months after 9-11 will STILL not trust ex military commercial airline pilots with pistols tells me all I need to know about what they really think about us peasants.

But they'll assign F-16s to shoot down errant jetliners and kill all aboard, that's okay, the F-16 jockey is a current govt employee.

That can work, why not?

It just happens that my two stories are already part of one novel, so we'll see how that goes publishing wise.

This takes a long time to load but it is worth it for a grin. I think the captain found a new way to swab the decks.

I remember one time I went to Alexander Platz in East Berlin in the 1980's. My friend bet me I couldn't drink $1 of beer at 10 cents a mug, and I couldn't!

Checkpoint Charlie at night was something else. I sat there many a night all alone, and I could not believe it! The British and French would go to sleep, and the Americans and Germans would stay awake. The Albanians had a "penthouse" nightclub right on the street, and they would often party ALL NIGHT LONG! I used to hassle their asses, knowing full well the German Polizei would back me up in a heartbeat. BTW, I was always unarmed at CCP (I know you're a 2nd Amdt advocate as I am,) and I learned how to use my mouth (I also was the Russian translator for the MPs.) I have my concealed weapons permit, but I generally never carry my weapon. But, as I grow older and frailer, I'll probably get my a$$ kicked, so I'll start carrying my weapon---it's a tough life---hah! hah!

Once again, outstanding!

Would it be safe to say that the kid getting shot in MD is a recent addition?

We went over to East Berlin as a group, all in Naval uniforms on a US Army bus. (Those were some bizarro days!)

We had lunch and very nice inexpensive Czeck "Pilsener Urquell" beer in a "club" type bar/restaurant. The maitre'd's steered us to specific tables, we gave them a hard time, "no, we'd like to sit over there", "No, I am sorry, that table is no good, you must sit here."

So the entire lunch, getting buzzed on cheap great beer, we talked to the hidden microphones, telling what a homosexual Lenin was, how he did it with farm animals, and so on.

Very safe assumption.
