But move around Havana with your eyes open and you see the reality. For Communist Party big shots there are beautiful neighborhoods like Miramar, with its elegant mansions and gorgeous gardens. For ordinary Cubans there are the crowded, crumbling apartments of Centro Havana, where families live in squalor it would be hard to find in an American slum.
The sad thing about this is the cruel reality in which Cubans live. Communism is a "concept"--nothing more. Castro is a murderer, and so is any oppressive, controlling, totalitarian government. People who romanticize Castro or any other totalitarian, i.e. Lenin, Hitler, Stalin, Mao or others, have obviously never felt the pain of not being able to express an individual idea. Plus these leaders have never known anything but the lust for their own power, repression, human rights abuses, killings, and illegal jailing.
Cheers, Luis, and ditto!
God Bless you for risking your life in what turned out to be a futile attempt at saving Cubans fleeing Castro's island paradise.
God Bless Elian and his family.
I hope Jeff's article fell under the hateful eyes of Reno, Gregg Craig (Williams and Connerly DC lawyer who conspired to rip the hardest won freedom of all to little child [ the death of the mom] , God's most precious gift, from little Elian), billy the rapist extraordinaire and man who SOLD pardons to highest bidders to enrich his OWN FAMILY while PRESIDENT ), hugely disgusting , hillary, joan campbell, doris meissner and assorted other creeps. Big time. These people are DREAM CRUSHERS. Tramplers of those less powerful. Greedy (just ask greggy poo about the Bagley's of DC and Reynolds tobacco or ADM aspirations in Cuba) and most of all, apparently GODLESS jerks.
