Wonder what the New York Times had to say about this at the time.

It had nothing to do with "Jewish political power," veronica. It had to do with the fact that the Johnson Administration had decided to use Israel as its surrogate in the Middle East to counter rising Soviet influence among the Arab states.

Had the truth come out about the deliberate attack by the IDF on our ship, and the killing of our seamen, public outrage would never have allowed the U.S. to establish close ties with Israel.

Israel knew the father of our modern welfare state saw the game of brinkmanship as worth more than the lives of a few paltry sailors, so they went for it.

It's been over thirty years now: You people can drop the pretense.

Deliberate or not. It profoundly affected my family.

My father was a Lt. Col in the Marines at the time. He an LCDR Armstrong, the XO of the Liberty, were best friends.I knew him as "Uncle Phil", I was only 10 years old at the time, but I don't ever remember my dad drinking before Uncle Phil was killed. Later, drinking killed my dad, his liver turned to stone.

Has your family asked for reparations from Israel?

Radio Free Republic Presents

The Banana Republican Hour

With your host Luis Gonzalez

This week’s guest:

Brothers to the Rescue founder, José Basulto

On February 24, 1996, three light aircraft left Miami on a routine flight. Their missions, to search the waters off the Florida Coast for rafters trying to reach the US shores, and bring them help by guiding the US Coast Guard to their location. That day in February, only one plane would return to its home base in Miami.

Tune in to Radio FreeRepublic this Thursday, March 14, at 9 PM EST, and listen to the actual sounds of a terrorist in action, murdering unarmed American citizens.

Sr. José Basulto, founder of Brothers to the Rescue and pilot of the surviving Cessna, will shed light on the events of that day, and detail how the Clinton administration withheld advanced knowledge of the attack from the humanitarian volunteer group, helping seal the fate of these four courageous flyers.

That is a piece of fiction from a Clancy book. The villian was a terrorist wasn't he? That quote you posted certainly does reflect the 'mindset' of 'certain types.' Good post!

My parents broke up in 1970, due mostly to the fact that my father had become an abusive alcoholic. My mother re-married (several times), and we as kids never thought about reparations. I'm afraid it's probably too late for that.

Can't be a cover-up! Just ask the Israel sycophants who flock here!

Oh boo hoo. You don't really mind if I break up the conspiracy theory fest with some facts, do you?

ANOTHER conspiracy, huh? To go along with the Israeli 'art student spy' coverup? Dang so many it's hard to keep up. :)

I got that quote from here:
Author Tom Clancy about the USS Liberty
The SURVIVORS of the cowardly and evil attack by ISRAEL against my fellow Americans operate that website they chose that quote. ENNES is a REAL AMERICAN. Here is Jim's main site from which I got the CLANCY quote:
USS LIBERTY Memorial

With all due respect, I hope your father didn't go to his grave blaming his alcoholism on the Liberty incident.

Can't be a cover-up! Just as the Israel sycophants who flock here!

Me? It's clear that both sides were incompetent, from what I've read. Fog of war, hyped up pilots, know it all sailors, whatever, the "cover up" was on both sides. Mega - SNAFU. I'm open to other ideas, but everything I read, cutting through the CYA and deflections leads me to believe as I've stated.

That quote you posted certainly does reflect the 'mindset' of 'certain types.'

There are "certain types" and then there are "certain types". Your posts have certainly indentified your "certain type".

The tombstone of five of the Americans says "Died in the Eastern Mediterranean". It's like one of the survivors said "It's like they might have died in a taxi accident".

I don't think that he did. But I'll never know. He died while I was over in Saudi in 1991, avoiding exchanging my blood for oil.

The significance in this broadcast is not so much in the content alone, but, more so, in its timing.

Prediction: The Powers That Be have decided to let Israel twist slowly in the wind.

Anybody want to hear a laugher -- that, in my mind, PROVES that W is either a clever liar or else putty in the hands of puppeteers?

During his campaign for office, W said he favored moving the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

He's done a LOT to make that happen, hasn't he? (sarcasm off.)

The mask has been removed first. Next thing to come off are likely the gloves. I fear that Israel is about to get the double-crossing of its life at the hands of the son of the President that forced Israel to stand passively by as Saddam fired some 39 Scuds into their soil.

The Bushes operate on this philosophy: The US may chase foreign enemies around the globe, inflicting much damage to civilians, if need be. (Don't forget, Bush spoke favorably of Slick's murderous bombing campaign in Yugo.) On the other hand, the Bushes Two forbid Israel to use proportionate force against those attacking them in their own back yards.

Mr. Bush: I voted for you this time. Next time, you just may need to find someone else to vote for you. Perhaps some of President Fox's "dual" citizens?

I'm generally pro-Israeli but your Viewers? Guide to the History Channel's Cover Up: Attack on the USS Liberty is nothing but Zionist garbage. Check your sources, their bias discredits you. Israel's actions in this case are indefensible.

A dozen congressional, Senate, CIA, NSA, Navy investigations came to the conclusion that this was a case of friendly fire. Just goes to show you how badly the Zionist "chosen people" have penetrated the higher echelons US government and military. </sarcasm off>.
