Bush says he won't legalize immigrants

U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday denied he was considering legalizing over three million undocumented Mexicans living in the United States, government news agency Notimex reported.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Bush said he hoped to work with Mexico on the matter, but said he would follow the will of the U.S. people.

"I don't think the wish of Americans is for an amnesty," said Bush, who added he had spoken about the issue with President Vicente Fox.

Bush and Fox are to meet March 22 during the UN Conference on Financing Development in Monterrey, where they will discuss immigration and post-Sept. 11 border security.

Just days before the terrorist attacks, Fox reportedly had been close to inking a deal that would have granted legal status to an estimated 3.5 million undocumented Mexicans and worker visas to many more.

"We've been working very closely with Mexico," said Bush.

On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would allow thousands of Mexicans living in the United States to apply for visas without returning to Mexico. The bill now goes to the U.S. Senate.

Bush called the measure "a good step" and urged its fast approval as a show of good faith to its southern neighbor.

The hotel and restaurant industries had been pushing hard for the bill, arguing they would be short staffed if thousands of their Mexican employees were forced to return home to apply for visas.

"What we need to do is find a way to guarantee that the wishes of employers are in balance with those of the workers," said Bush.

Several Republican lawmakers, however, have voiced opposition to loosening any immigration laws before a top-to-bottom overhaul of the Immigration and Naturalization Service and the U.S. Border Patrol.

Bush reiterated his administration's priority of achieving a safe and orderly border, and said he was confident he and Fox could agree on a plan.

"We've had a good dialogue and I don't think it's something that requires a law," said Bush.

"Ummm, try 10-12 million illegals from all over the world."

Yep.

13 million illegal aliens: A recent study at Northeastern University in Boston by researchers Andrew Sum, Neeta Fogg, and Paul Harrington concludes as many as 13 million illegal aliens may reside in the United States. This is comparable in size to the combined populations of the following 13 states and the District of Columbia (in alphabetical order): Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Wyoming, and the District of Columbia (population totals of 12,588,161; see itemized listing). The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service says about 40% of these illegal aliens are in California. The 2000 census counted about 8 million illegal aliens in the United States, and some expert demographers admit the 2000 census may have missed up to 5 million more.

Gallup poll: 94% of Americans oppose Mexican amnesty.

"It would seem to me a bad idea to have criminals (ilegal immigrants) handling and preparing our food."

One study indicates that over 70% of the illegal farm workers in Florida tested positive for Tuberculosis, and in another study that over 25% of the children in one of the largest school districts in San Diego (Sweetwater), a district with many children of illegal aliens attending school, also tested postive for Tuberculosis.

These are the illegal aliens preparing your Friday night restaurant dinner salads and picking your fresh vegetables.

President Bush has handled himself with more integrity and honor. We all see through a glass very darkly indeed these days. Good people, longtime conservatives are repeating the press lies...people who should know better are damning a good man for the whispered hate from the professional hatemongers. We are all sinners, indeed, but only one person in DC is lifting up the nation while our opponents work overtime to destroy him. What a people we've become.

We are going to hold you to your word, Mr. President, and we are going to be watching your every action and listening to your every word on the subject of illegal immigration from this point on. In the future, if you dare betray the American people by advocating the granting of amnesty, or the granting of legal status in any other form to illegal aliens, you will forever be branded a liar in our eyes.

So can we assume that just Mexicans bother you? You are absolutly correct. It is just Mexicans who bother me; Mexicans who come to my country illegally Mexicans who won't even try to learn the language of their so called "new country" Mexicans who bear allegiance to Mexico and not to their new country Mexicans who spit on the US culture and claim parts of the US as part of a new Mexican province Mexicans who sneak into the US and overload our social services. Mexicans who obtain false documentation so that they may illegally participate in the American economy Mexicans who vote illegally in our elections The list is long but you are right, it does support your idea that it is just the Mexicans that I object to.

Man, I couldn't agree more! Keep up the good work!

To: 4Freedom You're being duped by a big Texan dope. Bush may live in Texas, but he's a Connecticut Yale boy, like daddy. He's a northeastern liberal like the rest of them up here. They know what's best for the children, or at least they think they do. 70 posted on 3/15/02 9:09 AM Pacific by Reaganwuzthebest

Funny! I hate to admit it, but GW has more than proven his point of view. CFR, and now he would love to let millions more aliens from mexico by granting legal status to millions upon millions that are already here. How can that be a conservative thing to do? Who are we kidding? All I can see is NEW WORLD ORDER agenda.

Just like in Europe, the NAFTA agreement will eventually, after we have been brainwashed, erase our borders, and help to establish the super state here. The Mastricht treaty in Europe allowed for the removal of borders, free flow of goods, and eventually, people. Then the logical next move for those countries was to establish a common government and currency.

Globalist/NWO types have the same desire for the Americas. We are currently getting in their way. They want to allow in enough latins so that youll see no reason to keep them out. But, Americans rebelled, and that caused GW to reconsider, but only for a moment. He will come back again. He has a roll to play in this job, and he is not going to allow public opinion to stop the advancement of the globalist agenda.

Therefore, you can bet that when public opinion counts least, he will make the move. Some kind of "agreement" will be made up for his second term. And V. Fox will help design it. Mexicans are going to continue to flood the USA because the US government wants it that way.

Yeah, and Bush permitted Red China permanent legal trade staus while Congress was out of touch back in December. Bush went further than Clinton upon this issue........... and many Americans are distrustful of a president that jeopardizes our stability while kneeling down to communists.

Bush is ashame to conservatives.

I voted for Bush simply because he was the lesser of two evils. I considered voting 3rd party but I didn't because I figured that if I did, that would translate into a vote for Al Gore. As a republican, I couldn't let that happen.

But that will not happen in 2004. Kay Bailey Hutchinson has a poor record on immigration so I doubt if she will get my vote. Phil Gramm also has a bad record but he is retiring so I will vote for anyone that has a strong anti-immigration record. Congressman Pete Sessions has a strong anti-immigration background so he will get my vote.

I am tired of this administration using buzz words like "Temporary protection status", "Guest Worker Program", "Regularization", "Normalization", "Migrant" (for illegal aliens), "Employee/Employer Matching" and "Border Management" (not control). And new words are being dreamed up daily by this administration to disguise this assault on American sovereignty and citizenship.

Bush can't have it both ways. He is either for immigration or he is against it. He can't have it both ways.

You're a typical Bush-bot. You know you can't defend the indefensible, so you resort to mindless name-calling and personal attacks.

That seems to be all you're capable of. No wonder it's so easy for a pandering politician, like Bush, to make a sucker out of fools, like you.

LOL.
